Hey guys i have a set of VE HSVi Supersports that are currently painted in Satin black. There really hard to keep clean but so i was thinking of getting them re painted in gloss black. Anyone no what would need to be done so that its a good finish.. Sandblasting and powdercoating?

I had mine powder coated black and clear coated for $40 a wheel. Happy with the finish, still a pain to keep clean but black always is.

you can always try a product from Armorall called Wheel Protectant, it is sprayed on the wheel after it is cleaned, instuctions on the product. Seems to work well, we have a astra in the family and we all know how much black break dust they produce, but since using this product we are getting around 4 weeks between having to clean the rims, even in wet weather :).

Black does look good, but they will still show up the dirt.

powder coat is prob your best bet, but you can actually paint them with 2pack as well. painted a lot of rims in my time and they are easy to do. the beauty of 2pack painting them is they are easy to touch up if ever needed.

I just got my wheels sandblasted/powdercoated. The sandblasting is essential as sandblasted metal is a perfect surface for powdercoat to bond to - thus meaning the paint won't flake off or chip etc. If you were in melb I'd recommend the company who did mine. But bottom line is, powdercoat is a very good way to go.

Can anyone recommend a good place in Melbourne, apart from wheel solutions in richmond, got a quote for $660 from them... Any other places to try?

Try Racepaint in Braiside or neway wheel repairs in Heidelberg.

there are quite a few wheel protectants/sealants/waxes on the market, ive used the sonax spray and it makes a huge difference. I did an experiment on my wife's car, cleaned all wheels then applied the sealant to one side of the car only, there was a noticeable difference even after a month or so. you can use normal paint sealant/wax aswell but in my experience it wont last as long or make as much of an impact.

I'm in Brisbane but it pays to shop around. I spent a lot of time with the yellow pages just ringing around for quotes which ranged from $80 to $30 a wheel. In the end I payed $40 per wheel which included sandblasting and clear coat (in black). I also got my roll bar and nudge bar done for another $40. The finish wasnt perfect if you really look closely in some places but more than happy with it overall.
One thing to careful of is to make sure there is no corosion around where the inside of the rim where the bead seals. I had dramas with a couple of mine because the sandblasting must have upset the surface and had a couple leaks. Managed to fix it by using plenty of sealant but a pain in the ass.
