Just wondering if a set of ve hsv headers will fit straight onto my stock ve ss exhaust system with only cat backs on it, if so would it be worth buying?

Im not sure about the VE's mate thats why i suggested asking on here. There will be someone on here who knows 100% if they are different and if they will make a difference to the ss. If they arent much different I am sure they will be able to point you in the right direction.'

Yes they will fit - a little fiddling but they fit fine.. how do i know, cause i once had them on my VE SSV from a HSV VE Clubsport.. They should not cost much, and if you ask around at local exhaust shops, they may have one laying around after someone upgraded to long tune headers..

The standard Holden ones are only a cast iron manifold I'm pretty sure and the standard hsv ones I am looking at buying are a properly designed set of headers ,

Are they worth fitting? will it make much difference? Iv seen them around for $150.00

For me, Personally i think they are better both note and gain.. Some others will tell you you have to go LONG TUBE..
I got with HSV Headers / Cats and 2.5" KPM Catback 246rwkw.. Up from 206 pre-tune...
I can only comment on what I had.. Personally I think headers any day over cast ones... $150 is not bad..
From my research, they will increase low down torque a small amount. I looked into and decided $150 would be better spent on aftermarket headers which would deliver a bigger increase in performance. If you can get them for next to nothing and fit yourself - maybe. Look in the classified section and you could pick up a some headers for $500ish.

But with these hsv headers , or even after market ones will they fit straight onto the standard cats? Because don't have the funds to buy both at the moment

THE HSV headers finish past the flange of the normal SS cats so your cats would have to be modified to suits. Most HSV headers are sold as headers and cats which will bolt straight up to your catback. If you only have the headers I have a set of GTS cats if you want them. Aftermarket short headers such as paccies and HM will work with the HSV cats but stock cats will need to be altered.
The HSV headers are a worthy upgrade if your picking them up for zip- the biggest restriction I think will be the cats, I am fitting a set of HSV headers and Ballistics cats next week and will post up a before and after dyno figure.

They're different. hsv are tri-y and normal ss ones pretty much merge straight away. I got this pic off the jc forums, can't remember the exact thread.

Keep us posted. I have looked and I can't find any results of using the HSV headers with 100 cell cats. I think the headers would be ok with the better cats

I had HSV headers and cats put on my SSV sedan the day I bought it in Mar 2007, along with a KPM 3" catback. Unfortunately the sponsor I used to use then didn't do any dyno runs, so I have no idea what gain there was from the headers/cats, but I'd guess from other things I've seen/read probably 5 - 8rwkw??? They had to do a lot of mucking around to get the dipstick to fit, although I haven't really heard of anyone else having the same problems. :weirdo:
About 6 months later I went to a full KPM 3" system (4-1 Pacies and 150cpsi cats) and gained about 15rwkw, some due to the extractors and some no doubt due to the cats, but who knows what proportions? I know others who've gone from HSV headers and cats to 4-1 and high flow cats and picked up about the same.
My view for FWIW having been there, done that, is they're probably better than stock and hence worth upgrading if a) the outlay is low for both purchase and fitting and/or b) that is definitely as far as you're ever going to go with extractors and definitely won't be getting Pacemaker or other extractors. Unfortunately as most on here find, that's rarely the case!
If you can pick them up and have them fitted for say $150 - $200 (fit them yourself???) then possibly worth it. I know people who've picked them up for free! Unfortunately way back when I did mine there were very few around and I paid around the then going rate of from memory $400 inc shipping down from Sydney, thinking HSV extractors and a catback was all I'd be doing.:doh::doh:
