View Full Version : Anyone bought RE050A's lately?
About to buy new tyres and have been quoted the following for Bridgestone RE050A's:
245/40/19 - $496.00
275/35/19 - $706.00
Anyone replaced their's lately for a similar price or better? I know there are cheaper brands out there but I like OEM.

From memory about 3 months ago I paid about $390 to suit my 19" ssv rim for OEM tyres at Bob Jane.

Price on the 245/40/19 will depend on which load rating they are 94 or 98

I paid $359ea for the tyres on my SSv wagon about 3 months from Bob Jane Moorabbin
Check out Holmart. They have tyres to suit 19inch SSV rims for around $340.

Pretty pricey Luke shop around a bit more. There are the new RE002 Adrenalins out, worth getting a price on them too.

Problem with storing tyres is that the rubber perishes, i think it's 4 years from date of manufacture you shouldn't use them.
I got 245/40/19 RE050As for $298 each fitted from a Bridgestone dealer about 6 weeks ago.
Thanks for all the replies guys. Looks like I can get myself a much better deal with a bit more of a look around.
Cheers.

Check the load and speed ratings on the cheaper bridgestones. The genuine OEM are around the $700.
Mine were 94Ws. I thought that was same as the factory fitted ones but I could be wrong. The fronts on my car are 94W and the car only has 19000km on it so I assumed they were original.

If you have paid less than $400 for them then they are most likely 94 (96?) load rating.
You REQUIRE 98W on a Sportwagon or any of the HSV variants I believe (?) - any other load rating is not roadworthy.
I got a set for $500 a piece about 6 months ago - they were 2nd hand, had about 30klms driven on them (straight off a HSV that bought new rims and tyres from new).

I didnt know that, my VE SSV sedan says 94W on the tyre placard.

Try getting the tyres rotated and balanced say every 7500km it will extend the life, i've done 18000 on my set rotated once and they are still going strong i would say at least another 10000km in them

Mine are quite high - 98 from factory, so about 600 for each front and 800 for each rear tyre.

Not if they are stored correctly.
They should be stacked in racking or on their side, not on on their treads, preferably off the ground so they cant come into contact with any hydrocarbons. Cover them up with a sheet to protect them from UV and they will be fine.
Some premium brands like Michelin actually have a six year warranty.

Paid $359 each from tyre shop in Miami (Gold Coast) month or so ago, bloke had three in stock and would order 4th. I went to check invoice to make sure I remembered the price correctly and invoice says I have three 245/40R19 94W and one 245/40R19 98Y. @ $359 each. Went and looked at the tyres and yeah, one back tyre was 98 - though W not Y. Anyone know of an issue with differant weighted tyres on vehicle. I presume it is ok to have 98 on SS but not 94 on HSV. But what about one of each on the back?

Looks like my earlier post jinxed me! Blew out the sidewall on the rear left on the way home last night, so I am now in the market! In 17 years of driving I have never had a flat, in 3 years with the ssv I have had 3!

Mate that blows (pardon the pun).
I got two SSV re050's a couple of months ago from Jim at Best drive in Wanneroo for 349 each fitted.
He used to be a bridgestone dealer but recently became a continental tyres dealer. If you google bridgestone Wanneroo his number is the same.
Seems like a reasonable bloke.

Just in case you boys didn't know, the difference between the W and Y at the end of the load rating on these tyres means the speed that they are rated at.
W = 270km/hr
Y= 300km/hr
Heres a link to the REO50A's and also there is the link to the Bridgestone Adrenalin, not sure on how good the adrenalins are...
Click "sizes for this pattern" to get the variations.

Can i just say that the new Adrenalin 2's were designed primarily for medium sized sports cars like the STi and the EVO, there's an article in the back of one of the latest Motor mags about them.
Not too sure whether they would perform the same for a car the size of a VE.

Not suitable for HSV - needs to be a Y series tyre, otherwise insurance won't cover the vehicle.

I ended up getting Faulkin FK452's for $320 a pop...

Plus import duty and tax when it hits customs as it is over the $1000 including freight limit.
You may be lucky or you could be caught out and out of pocket $$$$

shipping is $375 via tirerack and they wont write anything other then the price on the customs doc's.
an extra 15% at customs, tire price + shipping costs = total, (taxed on the total)

Yes but were they 98W?
Everyone seems to miss the point of the load rating in this thread... it is required to be insured.
In saying that - anyone got some good prices as I am due also soon.
Someone said they Michelin Pilots for a good price.... avoid these as they came as OEM tyres on my Sportwagon... they wore out sooo fast! The edges are ultra low on thread thickness from new.

Why are you guys still after RE050As when they have been replaced by the S001? S001 runs to about $500 a tyre. I have them on my SS and they are every bit as good as the RE050A, slightly noisier, seems better in the wet and a much higher treadwear rating.

Going by Bridgstones own comparison table the S001 are exact same performance as the RE050A, i would get either one, cheapest wins!

I was seeking two new tyres last week, and no one would sell me RE050As, so I had to get S001s. luckily my car is leased, so the price was ok! otherwise, I think there is a significant price difference between the RE050A and S001.

Interestingly in the US tyres are a helluva lot cheaper Bridgestone S-04 our (S001) are only $253.58, shipping is what kills it.
Michelin pilot Supersports (probably the worlds best tyre atm) are only $287 on special, again shipping kills it.

To the best of my knowledge (without reading T&C) you can recommend businesses etc provided you are not blatantly advertising for them or somehow associated with them and able to seek reward or remuneration in lieu of said advertising.
So, where's you get a good price?

Yeah sorry, I should have clarified. I didn't buy 19's, but I bought a set of 18" Pilot Super Sports from tyrepower for $250ea which I thought was a steal considering they were $550rrp. I didn't believe they were the Pilot Super Sports until I saw them in person. When I asked why they were selling them so cheap, the guy told me that they always have random specials like this and I got them at a good time.
My second option, I was about to buy them from tirerack.com in the US and they were similar price but with the obvious postage on top, so went for the local deal. I would check with tyrepower first but if no luck I would have a look at tirerack as postage will cost you $300-350 on top, so may still work out cheaper, and delivery time is not long.
Hope that helps and sorry for any confusion.
