Wondering if anyone came unstuck leaving PowerCruise at Willowbank yesterday for illegal mods? Police were having fun checking cars as they left.

I have no idea what Power Cruise is about but if the underlying aim is to raise money for charity or something that just plain sucks!! :vpo: However, if it's mainly about a group of primarily young dickheads in their predominantly "fooly sikk" V6 Commodores and Skylines getting together for some hooning "fun" then I say :goodjob:!!

I suppose if your car is legal and engineered, there shouldnt be a problem.
But if the cop still tried to defect my car if it was all above board, I'd make a complaint and request that the cop be stood down until he knew the difference between a legal and illegal car

LOL, good f*cking luck.
The amount of times I've seen legal cars defect and the owner told to take it up with the RTA, I've lost count of. Even with certificates.

Yeah I know it would be like pushing shit through a tube to the moon but hey, no harm in trying.
I remember being a very young guy back in the day at the Mole Factory one night (old Melb guys will get it) being pulled over went something like this...
Officer: Your car is unroadworthy...
Me: No I have a current RWC in the glovebox...
Breaking glass....
Officer: You have a headlight out that's unroadworthy...
Me: Ok can I go now....

+1 I know my car would fail a noise test with the cam and KPM 3" system on it but obviously I don't draw attention to myself when driving as the last time I was actually pulled over when driving was over 30 years ago. :yup: I know technically it's illegal and if I got done then I have to wear the consequences, but I love it and it doesn't seem to be hurting anyone. As I said in my first reply, I'd be :vpo: if I went to support a good cause and in doing so got done for it.

Without being rude, your age will come into the equation allot as far as defects go.
If we both took your car out and did skids, I'd get pinged before you every time.

I remember exactly the same thing in Melbourne years ago with a tail lamp.
My mate asked the cop "What broken tail lamp?"
The cop rolled his eyes and then pointed to it with his boot!
Then he asked my mate if he wanted any more "broken things" added to the defect list?

I reckon that could upset an officer and perhaps doing that could buy you more trouble than
it would be worth if you did that on a normal routine Police check. :)

lucly ive never been defected or asked to pop the bonnet. so i wouldnt really know what or how they do it. but my younger brother got his new forrester (std everything) ,it was 3 weeks old they pulled him up and asked how a young kid on p can afford a new car like this,he told them i work hard why???
then they asked him to pop the bonnent to which he said how?? (he really didnt know how to and in my job not many people know how too). they then reached through the window, breaking the wheather shield and popped the bonnet.( didnt know they could do that unless asked to do so by the owner)
while opening the bonnet they told him he wasnt ment to be driving a turbo car, he told them its not as they have the big scoopy things on the bonnet.they didnt belive him and then got him out of the car while going over the thing. they toild him they could defect him because his washer bottle fuild was low and to get it fix asap.. WTF!!! they could find shit. it wasnt a turbo and theyd broken a part of his car being a wanker. and then gave him the fear of god that he had keep the washer bottle full. yet go if you go to most schools to pick your kids up, if you take the time to look at m the cars which parents use to pick the kids up u'd be surprised how many are on bald tyres. its amazing..

These particular checks as warranted as they are in some instances(due to stupid behaviour )and are becoming routine at these events they generally border on Harassment and dealing with the public they should in turn be held accountable.
We are all aware of how both parties attitudes can change....Nothing to fear on an inspection !! Well if his attitudes gets smart towards finding a defect why should he not be held to a professional Standard..??? :)

Hey I would not try it, I don't get picked on by the Police for minding my own business and I reckon that could upset them and make the situation worse.
It's like asking for trouble in my opinion.
I think it would be like saying "I don't like all you Police, I don't trust you, you are a bunch of corrupt %%%####......"
If I was a Police officer and someone treated and spoke rudely like that to me it would upset me and I think most people are the same.
I think you are far better being nice and polite to Police, they have a job to do and I respect that.
I have found if you treat people nice they are more likely to treat you the same. :)

Whilst its not for a charity, much the opposite, it still rubbish to target those who actually take there cars somewhere off the street rather than just the back of a industrial estate.
2 years ago when I had my car there once sunday arvo came it was defect time, up until then it was only checking speed through the 60 zone. I ended up driving out the little lane that borders the dragstrip and poping back out onto the road at the go-kart track and thus avoid said police. I feel I would have had some trouble with an air filter out the bonnet and dumped exhaust and a cam in the 240s

It quite simple really, keep your mouth shut, yes sir, no sir, 3 bags full sir and on your way, be a smart arse or start arguing then you immediately fail the attitude test.
I have no problem with Powercruise but I'm also a realist and have seen some of the shitboxes leaving that place and once they've got a bit of machoness In them from the track day they want to replicate that outside.
They're doing a job and people carrying on about corruption and other dribble just shows a lack respect for authority in my opinion. If the officer isn't sure about defects then he/she passes it to transport to determine.

why is it rubbish? even though it is off the street as soon as you drive the said modified car from there they are illegal (if not engineered)

+1 then go back to work, remove the SD video card from my on board front (with sound) and rear full time cameras, just to see they were good boys.
Also with road rage, have had one (he was totally out of line) passed me with my camera showing I was doing 60Klms while he passed me and cut me off, stopping me before he came ranting to my window. I explained the situation (he had to apologise or I hand the video to the police) he apologised when he saw I had the goods on him.
So the camera's that GTSListy have are the go here (I now have 1 in all vehicles, even my mountain bike) keeps all honest.
Had a tint done on the GMC the other day, left the keys on accessories and recorded all, interesting what happens when you're not there.
Cheers

"Are you carrying any dope?" - "Three bags full sir."

So your car is 100% legal always???
Its about the same as a priest standing outside a brothel, Most cars on here are illegal, one way or another, we all go on about doing burnouts in the right spot and not on the road. Well powercruise is the answer yet when most of the people drive home in a sensible way with a car that may not be road legal, but gets driven at the right place.
I don't know if you have been through the defect station when its run there buts its not drive up sensibly in a lowered commodore with an exhaust and be polite to continue, they do a an inspection of nearly every car, but yeah when they only do this at car events I'm going to call it rubbish.

Thank fully i was inthe misses car, which is a VX Berlina wagon (LS1, exhaust, tune, OTR, lowered, mags). They didnt even look twice at me as i drove out then back in again half hour later.

If you drive nicely and the car dosent look like cop bait eg.super low with huge rims and a really loud exhaust they wont care. its when you start thrashing it on the way out they will pull you up.
