VY R8 binnacle needle illumination fix?

Hi guys. This is probably an old problem but I couldnt locate anything on the problem or a fix for it.
My brother has recently bought himself a VY Clubsport R8 and the binnacle gauges on the dashboard have the normal backlight illumination however the needles themselves do not light up at all. I have taken it to a local gauge technician and was told the the needles have been painted on the wrong side. Does anyone know of a fix that is simple? Are the series 2 gauges the same?
Any help is appreciated as whenever I get in the car it does my head in to see it.

They were all like that from the start in the HSV VY series. Weather they are genuine fitted to the car from factory, or the genuine kit you fit yourself to non HSV cars. The needles dont light.

I bought a genuine kit and fitted to my VY SS ute and its the same. Needles dont light.

Take the covers off the globes (if they're still on) and it should brighten the guage face up enough to see them at night.
But as stated, the needles themselves aren't illuminated.
