Hi all,

Here is my first post. I have a 2003 hsv clubsport which seems to be having some wierd electrical problems so ill give you the quick history. I purchased 4 years ago and have had no trouble with motor etc but i have had some strange electrical issues. The only thing i seem to be able to link up is possibly that i have trouble when its wet/raining. Interior light used to come on by itself ages ago, recently i had trouble with the engine running really bad on idle. Its like it hadn't learnt its idle position although i have not had the battery off, and the power windows stopped working on saturday night whilst it was raining of coarse.

Now, The power windows were supposedly repaired about 2 years ago. when i wanted to put them down, they would not go until the auto down kicked in. The auto electrician then said he was unable to look at the bcm with his tool because it was coming up with some error restricting him from reading it. so he bypassed the bcm with some relays etc and left it at that. only recently i have had troubles again. of coarse it was raining.

I have a possible link to maybe why he cant read the bcm, when i bought the car there was a cold air intake pipe missing and also no heat shielding on exhaust headers which i assume are standard. (they are on my mates vy ss).
Maybe my car had a supercharger on it which was removed before traded in meaning a flash of ecu/bcm is restricting people from reading it?

Was pretty much wondering if anybody knows where the bcm is and how it marrys into everything. unless of coarse someone has another idea to my dilema.

as i have stated the problems are extremely rare and change from time to time. example, when engine wasnt running right, i tried using some throttle to get rpm up and it dropped straight back down. so i turned off the car and turned it back on and it was as normal for 2 hour trip home. no problems at all.

Im guessing something is wet somewhere. but im stuffed if i know where.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Callum

The BCM's job is separate to the PCM's (engine computer) job, so it should have no effect on how the car runs. Besides initial immobiliser functions, things like electric windows, interior light, headlight delay etc are what the BCM does, not idle speed/quality or other engine related functions.

ok, figured as much so if the engine runs the bcm is arming the pcm is that right?? i have a small issue i just thought of with air flow meter plug where it hit a pulley, maybe thats the idle issue. so maybe ill start out by checking on some connections to bcm. i have been told just now by more searching its under fuse box under steering wheel??

ok. i have pulled some stuff apart and already found some wonderful wiring disasters.

does anybody know what the wires in this pic do?
they have twisted the blue and yellow together, and also the green/orange and green together. Something to do with my power windows perhaps. Im still looking around so help would be great.

If you want to post some pictures, host them on a third-party site - Photobucket is a good choice - then post the links in your post here and someone will link to them for you.

Good luck with the car - sounds messy.

cheers

Twisted wires are generally signal or CAN communication wires and normal to be twisted. Can't see it being CAN as the VZ was the first to use CAN communication i think, so probably not CAN on your VY. i could be wrong.

Have you checked your earth wires.
