Hey,

Time for a noob question.

I've done a search and couldn't find much that specifically covered by questions.

1. I have a 2005 Clubby with the 2 gauges in the middle. The oil pressure gauge has the numbers 1, 3 and 5 on it. What do these mean? Is it pressure in BAR?

2. When the car is warm the idle oil pressure sometimes goes as low as 1 and when driving normally it usually sits just under the 3. About a 2.5. Is this normal?

I did some reading about minimum operating oil pressures @ temp and found the following data:

6 psi at 1,000 engine RPM
18 psi at 2,000 engine RPM
24 psi at 4,000 engine RPM

This suggest to be that I'm fine (if the little numbers are actually BAR) since the min pressure at idle would be 0.4 (ish) BAR.

The car is cammed and have 243 Higgins heads, not sure if that makes a difference.

Just want to get input from you guys to put my mind at ease.

Thanks in advance.

Check the manual, but from mamory, it's bar.
General rule of thumb for modified motors is 10 PSI/1000RPM.
Converting to common units.....

10PSI=0.7bar=70kPA
30PSI=2.0bar=207kPA
60PSI=4.1bar=414kPA
70PSI=4.8bar=483kPA

When the oil is cold, you may see 70+ PSI. there is another thread from some ago that has a listing of peoples actual oil pressrues readings. try a search and see what you find.

I have a mechanical Autometer gauge in my ute.

Idles on about 18-20 psi, cruises at about 25psi (1500-1900rpm), 60psi+ at 4000rpm and onwards

Thanks mate, did some searching... had to be quite specific in my search terms to not end up with a million pages.

It seems that alot of guys with UN modified engines have about 1.5-2.0BAR pressure @ idle when hot. So I'm a bit under but I do have a modified engine.

I am within the 10-20PSI rule of thumb you mentioned and I found in one other thread so that's good.

And when I floor it it usually goes up to about 4BAR on the guage or 58psi odd.

So it's looking like I'm all within tolerances... cheer!

mine sits like a mm or two under the 3 when warm and a little over the 3 when cold under normal driving conditions. it hasnt changed since cam and heads were done.

****, sorry guys, just realized that I'm a spaztard dribbling ****tard.

Just realized the gauge starts @ 1 and not 0... so at idle the lowest I sit at it 2BAR aka 30PSI odd. Which is well within range and what I've seen posted in other threads. Never gets as low as 1.

Sorry, feel like a retard now!

At least I did warn you it was a noob question! :D
