I'll be hoping Jamie wins this year.
But who knows....as far as Holden is concerned, ya can never rule out HRT, particularly if Tander is there....he NEVER gives up, their cars are getting better at the right time, so I'd give HRT a real chance.....and of course Tander has scored a RIPPER co-driver.
Cheers, Pickles.

Probably not.

Tander & Percat, although reasonably storng, aren't as strong a combo as Skaife and Lowndes in my opinion.
The only way anybody else will win is if they have mechanical gremlins.
That said, it is Bathurst and anything can happen.

Cheers

My money is on Skaife and lowndes, when it comes to the endurance races these 2 have been sensational,as long holden win I'm happy.

IMO Lowndes/Skaife are the new Brock/Richards. I would really love to see HRT win it though (#2 anyway).

It's been years since a Bathurst rookie has won, so it would be great to see because I feel Tander/Percat are the underdogs as far as conflicting experience goes. In reality any Holden winning is better than a Ford.:)

Lowndes/Skaife odds are at $3.75 on Betfair .....thought it is worth chancing a few dollars.

I really hope we get some good racing, something that makes it memorable.
I know it sounds negative but it feels like it gets less exciting and more predictable every year.

I used to love when all the teams who were at the bottom of the points table would place on the podium at Bathurst due to reliability issues of the big budget teams, but they are all reliable these days.

It shows all classes on the mountain, not just the V8 supercars. Click on the link under event - ie P6
OR, click on the Ind Lap Access link for the event & you will see all lap times for all drivers, even sector by sector.. very cool

Enjoy!

as much as i hate to say it, Shane van Gisbergen will be hard to beat in the wet this weekend if he can contain his aggression.

it sucks this weekend when I'm not there. Went in '09 and def going in '12. Bloody vracking weekend for all involved, regardless of the weather.

as much as i hate to say it, Shane van Gisbergen will be hard to beat in the wet this weekend if he can contain his aggression.

it sucks this weekend when I'm not there. Went in '09 and def going in '12. Bloody vracking weekend for all involved, regardless of the weather.

told ya he'd be fast!! down into the 2.07.6's so the track is dry at least. bring on tomorrow afternoon and sunday!

lowndes and skaife have the runs on the board and will be hard to beat all weekend i think.

Tander on provisional pole. :goodjob:

I know Lowndes/Skaife will be hard to beat, but I would love to see Tander/Percat win it to secure HRT's 200th win. It would be the first time in 30 years since a rookie has won Bathurst at his first go.

Hopefully Percat is our equivalent of Trevor Bayne who won the 2011 Daytona 500 in Nascar in his first attempt.

Bathurst rookie Cameron Waters' spectacular spin at Skyline yesterday was caught on camera.

"It was a little but scary!" said Waters, who is making his V8 Supercar debut at Bathurst in the #77 Shannon Mars Commodore.

"It all happened pretty quick going over the top, as I turned it in I must have hit one of the wet lines and I got a bit loose.

"As soon as I got on the kerb on the outside, around it went. I managed to save it and not hit anything.

"I just did it a little bit better than Fabian (Coulthard) I suppose!"

Waters and Grant Denyer will start the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 from 29th on the grid.

As has been said, Waters does have a reasonable amount of experience. Biggest issue for the race is both Waters and Denyer are going to be a mobile chicane as they are both well off the pace. I hope their actions don't affect the outcome of the race, after all how many races have been affected by back markers in the past

wow thats a bit harsh

you gotta remember, there is only one way to get the guy off the mountain. what if it was a family member of yours (or even you) and they had a heart attack or broke a leg or something? just chuck em on the back of a motorbike and bring them back down?

Anyways, back on track... great end to the race, unfortunately way too many safety cars but thats racing! The spectacle of Bathurst just keeps getting better and better.

Great race well done to all, I thought the top three all deserved a trophy for their drives at the end.

I think had Whincupp not got the car restarted after it cut out up the top of the mountain just infornt of Winterbottom and lowndes and held them up for some time under yellows Lowndes would have been much closer, and Tander would have been in trouble. But that's the way it is.

Didn't see the post race posters usually given out the the winning team - you know the ones that say "Five in a row for Holden" (2005) etc etc.

Perhaps with car of the future coming maybe they are going to forget about it, as printing several different sets that won't get used is a bit stupid.

Also..... are these posters from past Bathurst1000 races a collectable?
I would imagine someone is into collecting them every year.

Fair enough then.....I didn't know that.....I didn't know that he had racing experience...I thought he was simply some young guy that won a competition!
Cheers, Pickles.

All good, his experience didn't help him yesterday!!!!!!!:lmao:

Not the first or last to be caught out there though

I noticed maybe for the first time as don't watch all races, how the clutch is connect to the accelerator for down changes so they don't need to heel toe.

are you sure thats right? i was under the impression that they could shift down without the clutch. hence the need to blip or suffer from compression lock.

They shift up without the clutch.

Not sure they all have this, but the car with the camera up under the dash sure showed this connection between the clutch and accel.

Everytime he down changed he hit the far left (his side) pedal which also pulled down the accel pedal, his foot was no where near the accel.

Which allowed to to also brake easily at the same time when required while slowing.

Was probably on some cam reduction setup, as the accelerator didn't go right down, as the clutch was going all the way down.

was interesting watching that

You know how they only use a few inches of clutch travel? Does that work in our cars? I always just jam it to the floor. I guess it depends on where the 'bite' point is

When I was playing with minis in my dim, dark and distant youth we would adjust the clutch to come on very quickly and then put a leather strap behind the pedal limiting how far back it would go. Very common mod in other cars too. Stab the clutch and then side step it. Made a difference for sure.

not sure why the fire started way back up the track away from the car. then traveled back to the car.

must of been something hot back up the road

Hmmm It has been suggested elsewhere that some one in the crowd threw a cigarette butt down towards the track, may account for how the fire started away from the vehicle........

A better explanation might be that the flame from the exhaust on the car behind on the overrun ( VIP petfoods) ignited what would have been a hell of a lot of fuel vapours that would have been there as a result of spilling all that fuel

probably the car behind. i've tested throwing a butt in fuel it didn't light it.

its all in the type of box used (which i guess most of you know) up shift is easy with out a clutch.
and the down shift they need to use a clutch and use 'hell and toe'
but also most have a button on the gear shift lever that when pressed cuts fuel and spark to the engine. thus helping to break the torque loading on the upshifts and down shifts.......

best i could come up with was that the air/fuel ratio wasnt right until a car drove past and the air disbursed by that car caused the perfect mixture and there was bits of hot exhaust already in the puddle... once the fire started, well it will regulate itself for oxygen pretty much

That area on either side of the track I dont think is a spectators area. It's a flaggies area only.

Thats kinda right. I believe that when the gear lever is pulled back, there are sensors on the lever/in the box that are mapped to the engine management system, and it cuts the fuel supply for a split second & that allows the engine revs to drop when changing gear. I will find out next week for sure.

I always thought it was the timing was cut back on gear changes rather than fuel being cut
