Would this work? Would it be legal? Has anyone done it?

22s would work fine, just need to roll and flare the guards. It is illegal as the rolling diameter is too big compared to the stock rolling diameter.
A bunch of guys will just tell you to do a search on here, which you can, it has been covered plenty of times.
jump onto the just commodores forum and search for user badnws. he has a wm with 22's thats dumped

You dont need to roll or flare the guards. All you need is the right offset unless you want to have massive dish which is another story. My cousin has been running 22x8.5 all round with sssl springs in the rear and ssl springs up front for a couple of years with no other modifications. I dont have any pics on my computer but i can get him to send me some if anybody really wants to see what it looks like.

We have had VEs on SSSL springs that scrub on 22s. You will almost definitely need roll and flare to get 22s on it comfortably, especially with people in the car.

was this on a wm??? If so i would say your wheel was not the right offset as i have been in my cousins car many times with 3 in the back and never had any issues with scrubbing. It is his wifes daily driver and she would go nuts if there were any scrubbing issues. Only drama he has had is 22's are week as shit and every pothole means buckled rims

I would like to put some fairly deep dish wheel on it as it looks nice what would be the story with that?

that thing looks bad ass! seen plenty of WM's kicking around on 22's, with the right offset and tyre choice you shouldnt have any problems with scrubbing, roll the guards and you should be sweet, maybe consider airbags if you wanna go super low....?
