Im looking at one of these puppys to replace the HZ, like the ook of them over the stock wagon, bit overlanderish, also wont a 5.7ltr or the 6ltr, I know they will be thirsty but OZ has a 5.7ltr on GAS and its goes better If I get one and put gas on it Im not worried,

I would really love a modern Sportswagon but cant gas, it well can but not too many around and its a small donought tank

Other options are a VE Sedan but have one of them and like my goon, if I and when I sell it I would like something a lil rarer on street with wow factor

A LX8 with nice old school note should be good and can go off road a little

I know I have gone full cirxcle was thinking of a cruise, but cant justify walking out of the HZ into a cruise, so hence looking at a LX8

Thanks

LX8?....Top top unit....as long as you get one that hasn't been abused.

Love my CX8, the 5.7 get's much better fuel economy than my Cross6 Tonner did as most of my driving is open road, the Wagon can't be thirsty around town if you squirt it from a stop being almost 2 tonne.

Brilliant tow car also excells at Interstate trips.

I have just bought another one as I absolutely loved my old Adventra. I sold my lx diesel Captiva and went back 3 years to a 05 VZ lx8 Adventra. I have had it tuned and no get around 11.0l/100km. I do live rural though.

Just find a good one. You will be as happy as Larry. They are also a great tow car.

Cheers Large.

Sportswagon on gas comes out in Feb. if you can wait that long - and it has no space compromises.

The Holden Eco-branded system – mostly engineered in-house – is set to get a tank tucked under the back of the car when it replaces the current dual-fuel system in the New Year.
Holden will become the only local manufacturer to offer an LPG-equipped wagon, as Ford has discontinued its Falcon wagon and does not offer an LPG Territory. This will give Holden an advantage with fleet buyers.

I had a 05 LX6, and the fuel consumption was worse than my 07 SSV. Nothing under 19L. I didn't drive it economically, but I was surprised at the levels.

That said, excellent car, but not for off-road use due mostly to the original tyres. During an trip I ripped one clean apart. Unsure if another brand would have been better.

Our lx8 is awesome, was very heavy on fuel when we first got it. A better exhaust and a mafless tune from lsx tuning and it is now heaps better on fuel.
Tows really well, towing a car to and from brisbane this weekend with it. Can not recommend them highly enough.
I have had it on the beach several times and it is suprising how far they get.
Cheers, josh

im looking at gas conversion say $4100 with a tune and exhaust would you say economy would be good enough to miss the gas conversion??

I m liking the look and practical side of this, yes in Newcastle we have some great beaches so could be a good weekend get away, and also live on the bush

Towing would be good later on saves drivng the torana long distances to shows

Lx8 Adventra's are great. Very versatile Luxo barge. Weight and AWD softens performance mods but has advantages elsewhere, like dirt roads, wet surfaced roads, towing etc. Loved mine as motorcycle tower come overnight sleeper. Just make sure the transfer case is good, they rarely let go, but when they do = $.
Personally I would just do the exhaust and tune. Pass on the gas conversion - you will loose space or spare tyre, loose power, just another thing to go wrong, gas economy is usually much less than petrol. If you sit down and do an actual running + conversion cost of gas versus just petrol running cost you will usually discover you have to do a lot of Ks to break even, let alone come noticeably in front on $.

That may have been true back in the early 70s, but gas conversions have come a LONG way. Have a read in the LiLPG thread, most guys are getting MORE power on LPG than petrol, and economy is usually only 5-10% worse. When you consider (Depending where you are) LPG is about 1/3rd the price of petrol, its a very economical decision.

Im not sure in the adventura what gas tank they use, but its worth looking into. As for time to recoup your money... well obviously depends how far/hard you drive. But even if it takes a while to get your money back, i find it worth wild as your much more likely to go for a drive if it wont cost as much.

We had a LX8 Adventra. great car they dont come in 6ltr tho only 5.7ltr. go an lx8 or a HSV Avalanche. ours was very thirsty but I did exhaust, headers, otr, mafless tune & LPG then it was cheap as to run. I also added 20inch supersports & bigger brakes (hsv avalanche spec brakes) good cars overall

Pity they never continued, my understanding is from mid VZ everything got the AWD floorpan so looked like Holden were going to offer CrossTrac as an option on everything.

Again pity they didn't spec a Torsen based Transfer case.

I have an adventra... Best car I have ever owned. Versatile, well equipped... Mine needs some love, but at 275000k...

I have a CX6. I put it on gas and haven't looked back. I don't lug a spare wheel, just some tire goo and a compressor... I have also put 70000k on these tires, only with light feathering on the front outside edges. It's an absolute cavernous thing too. Great fun on dirt roads and feels brilliant in the wet.

I have a avalanche. Fantastic car. I have had it since 2005 and have zero intentions on selling it. Best all rounder and stacks of fun on the dirt too.
Agree as above. Needs a bit of TLC like the rear leveling suspension has had its day and some cleaning up. Never seems to phase it though. If you really want there is room for about 335 wide tyres on the back.

I had test drive at the Werribee 4WD Proving Ground when first released. It was Holden organised event, great day.

There 4WD capabilities are quite good. I tested the car in a range of 4WD conditions it handled quite well. For example crossing shallow creek, up steep dirt hill and good grip on dirt road. It can’t be considered a series 4WD.

Stock they feel as quick as my Ecotec VY.

This is a car im keen on, dont need the rear seat so selling that to helpfund mods is a good way to recoupe some money looks a very tidy unit,

Gas is a huge bonus too me running a VE SS and this would kill us but a gas car and the VE no worries, money i spend i will see at end of the day,

I am liking them the more i see them and read about them, just trying to find a local one to test drive and see what there like

Im in Newcastle struck gold seen one in my village and it lives there so on weekend will be poping over with a 6 pack and having a chat, gotta love the bush lifestyle we have

Then I need to find a buyer for the HZ Wagon woop woop

6 is V6 190KW
8 IS V8 235 KW in VY11 250 KW in VZ.
SX is pov pack .
CX is Berlina spec
LX is Calais spec

IF you can get an VZ LX8 , you'll be laughing ,
as it's fully loaded , being the end of production run .

If you can get a VZ not a VY, they upgraded the brakes on the VZ with a bigger booster plus other stuff. If you can wait till you can get a VZ it will be worth it, took me 6 months of searching before I got what I wanted.

Look interstate as well, I am in Melbourne and got mine from Canberra.

I bought the Wagon as a Donor for the the V8 swap into the Tonner as it was dirt cheap!

Went to look at it as the car yard (450 Km round trip) took the Trailer "just in case" got there and thought "this can't be the cheap car I want to buy and scrap" it so too good!

Sure enough it was the only one they had, it had a leaky water pump and had been sitting long enough that all 4 discs were dark brown with rust!

Quick spin around the block came back slapped the $ down and bought it home witrh a change of plans :)

Chucked a new water pump on it and a new rear windscreen wiper motor and it passed the RWC on the first inspection, had to put a new Rad cap on as some genius had snapped the valve off so it was drivable with the leaky water pump.

Since then the only "cost" has been a replacement fuel pump as the original was laying down, it's been to Sydney a couple of times and done around the 10K KM's quite a bit of it towing, fantastic DD and actually get's much better economy than the Cross6 ever did!

If you don't have a herd of kids it makes sense to flog off the seats if they pull that kind of $!

Just remember the seats are only worth as much as someone wants to pay for them, go the VZ

went and looked at one this arvo oh my got its the worst loved car i have seen , filthy pigs must of owned it, rear tailgate damage, side arches scrathed and wrecked, seats witten on with texta, glove fell completely off when checking books, under engine bay covered in muddy water, most unloved car i have seen, but sales man keeped saying its a great car, serviced every 10000k's and will cost alil to fix up, so i threw the old take it as it is he would only knock off 1500 dollars there is more work then that to be done, rear end banged up, rear bumper needs replacing, gates has a decent crease with rust forming, interior including the roof lining was filthy

oh my god

They are great wagons. I've got the VZ but over here (NZ) they actually released some VZ's with the VY front. Not sure why. Mines black with tan interior. just a nicer contrast.

One thing to watch is the rear shocks. Had to do one for warrant and other was getting close so did both. Could have replaced all four in my HZ wagon for the cost of one shock alone. That said, great for towing.

Definitely get VZ, binnacle gauges are Volt & Oil, VY are Inclination & Attitude which pointless when you wouldn't push one of these to the point you need that. VZ guages actually have a use.

yeah progress, got a call from a potential buyer on my HZ Premier Wagon, I felt sick after wards and pulled out selling, the only reason I was selling it was to buy a modern and to stop bombing down freeway,

Keeping the HZ and bought myself a cheap motorway bomber to do the work job and HZ for weekends

Will tidy up bomber in 6 months time after a good final summer with wagon might sell both and buy a smik LX8 close the gap cash wise, and gives me time to find a smik VZ version with everything perfect on it

I am so keen for one, the one in our village I drive buy daily so motivation is there, just couldnt sell old girl before one final summer
