There's a couple of different ways that you can go about it...
ASL, JHP, No Limits Electronics will provide you everything you need but it will be expensive (around $600 but that probably includes the VIM). You can also do a manual version yourself with a relay however you will need to select 'Aux' every time you want to see the camera and it camera will also not work >3kms due to the Vehicle in Motion lock.

See http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=143134. It is about reverse camera for a S2 ute but along the way mentions the install I did in my S1 ute and how someone was quite impressed with their install in a S2 ute by ASL in Lynbrook for $495, so I'd check them out if you're over this side of town.
If you want to do it on the cheap a CMOS camera like I got on eBay for $40 or so works fine (not so good at night though) and probably about $20 or less of bits to connect into the back of the stereo if you are good with electronics stuff, else as I and many others did by the Aux-In kit from No Limit Electronics for $80+. An hour or two to install and Robert's your dad's brother. :D
The big question is do you want the VIM mod at $300 or so (explained in that thread). I tried to live without it but eventually got sick of the display cutting out at 3kmh  so bit the bullet.

The switching module for $400 sounds like the VIM (vehicle in motion) mod which means the display cuts out at 3kmh and above so the driver can't try to watch a DVD while driving.
The VIM mod is NOT essential so as I did you can save money up front by not having it. I eventually got sick of the display cutting out at 3kmh so bit the bullet and had Adrian (vxclubby85) do it for me. I also deliberately didn't wire mine to the reverse switch so I can view what the camera is displaying whenever I want by hitting AUX.
My ute is MY9.5 and from what I read from the guy who had his S2 ute fitted with a camera by ASP I suspect even S2 "need" it.
