checking engine numbers

hi all

Im looking at a ls1 atm to go into my vk project .Ive found one for sale it its a good motor etc i was just wondering is there a website or somewhere that i can check the engine number to see if its stolen??? last thing i want is to put it in and have problems with licence

Dunno wat state ur in but maybe goto ur local pig station and see if they could search the number for you if not ur local department of transport aka vicroads or something
