Hi all, i have searched the forums and have seemed to get mixed opinions,

Sadly i was stung in the operation at knox last night, they have done me for too loud and an 02 test.

my question is, can someone say, from experiance not opinion, yes or no, with a 235/242 @113 .605 lift, with the stock exhaust and airbox back on it, pass an emissions test with a tune, or is the cam too big to pass?

god bless the 20ish police and epa workers that were at knox last night writing epa and defect notices who could have been fighting crime like domestic violence, alcohol related violence and drugs.

for the record, no i was not hooning, driving like a dick or giving police attitude.

Hi

From experience a VX Clubsport with a 224/228 cam does not pass an emissions test.

From opinion: I think you need to remove your cam but hope you get away with it!, is their not some loophole that you can get away with it been a ute and used as farm machinery or something to that effect and it is exempt?

You can pass. Amadr8 passed a full test with a bigger cam in his ve

Main factors in this will be how well the stock cats still work and how good the tune is.

I received a letter on Thursday only for a db test though. In the letter it basically says that you cannot sell the car until the car has passed the db test. BUT if it has already been sold ( and it can be proven) no test is required. SO "sell" your car to a family member (preferably with a different surname/address)
put an earlier date on the transfer forms ie a month ago and lodge all the documentation stating the car was actually sold a little while ago and hope for the best. Worst case scenario you still need to get it tested, best case you transfer the car back into your name without it being tested.

My car is strictly bolt on with a tune and the licensed tester where I am booked in to have it tested told me over the phone that it wont pass, so prob no hope in your case.

from experience i had a 240/244 @110 with about 600 lift pass a full emissions test last yr on my ve ute, all that had to be done was complete standard exhaust put back on, standard air box back on, the maf was put back on but not active and then the tune had to be played with a bit. in victoria our test isnt very hard to pass, only took about 15 minutes for the tune to be tweaked

The test at moorabbin is not a full emission lab style test, so it may not be too hard to pass as mentioned

TMU are normally only involved in traffic type matters

has anyone thought of putting E85 in it just to pass, wont that significantly reduce the emissions?

i did consider that, that may be my saving grace to have to put the stock headers back on :(

e85 wont make enough of a difference, just speak to chev he will sort you out.
i got done recently and have a 222/228 cam in and passed by miles on the emissions. they only checked carbon monoxide, and the max limit is 4% mine was 1% so way under.

noise will be another thing though, i fitted my stock exhaust, cats and headers and it was only under by 2db.. so a bigger cam may need some extra persuasion to quieten it down.

my tune wasnt done by chevs but was done by oztrack so dont feel so bad its not as horrible as it first seems when you get done.

Sounds like to me they are not willing to put in the hard yards on the tune. I know my old tuner was having a fair crack at getting one of his customers passed a similar issue (bigger cam & heads etc) don't know wether he was successful or not but it was good to see he was trying to help the customer out without ripping shit out of his engine.

Nah just the once, but was thinking the cam would have to come out too.. now that i know it can stay there its not so much of an issue if i get done a second time.
