Hi guys

I just bought the 6th gen iPod Nano to have in my car as they are so small and discreet. I can have it nicely mounted next to the radio with a short cable going into Aux and have tons of music.

However, when the charger is plugged into the Nano, there is LOT of static noise. I tried 3 different chargers and same thing happens. I also tried my wifes Nano and its doing the same thing.

Anyone else in the same boat experiencing this ? Or if you have a Nano and ipod/iphone car charger, can you plug it in and see if same is happening to you ?

really annoying as that means I cant charge and listen to music at the same time and I have to remove the ipod from the car to charge it on PC when Im not driving.

I noticed that with one charger the static notice is less than the other two. Cables seem same quality with not much shielding so not sure what else I can try.

any thoughts are welcome!

It can't be done. Doesn't matter what device you're using if it's charging and plugged in to listen to music you'll get the static noise. Not sure what the exact terminology is but it is creating a loop. Look at it as power going in and out at the same time.

Hi Mate.

It will be a ground loop issue.

1. You could try a ground loop isolator (you can get in-line 3.5mm types)
OR
2. Wire your charger in so that it is earthed at the same point as your Head Unit... This should minimise or eliminate the noise associated with the ground loop issue.

Good Luck.

BTW if you are going for option 2 and need help finding the wiring etc I should have a wiring diagram that could help.

Cheers, Chris

thanks guys, this helps ...

I ordered one of these :

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260741338139

so we'll see how that goes ... shame u cant get a USB integration for HSV VE 1 series as an aftermarket install. I'd be happy to pay up to $300 for someone to install a fully integrated solution that works with my steering wheels and shows song names on the screen.

That filter should help.
Providing your power adapter is ok then you should have a nioce clean signal :D

Re USB input... dont believe that it can be done anywhere near as cheap as you are hoping... that wont even get you a VIMM modification unfortunately :(

There are a few people tinkering with solutions, but nothing easy or cheap.
