This is a mates car that ill be helping him build over the next 12 or so months.

Its been off the road for about 7 years and its had a fair bit spent on it so far, mainly body work. Its all straight as, all hanging panels are still at the panel beaters. All it needs now for the body work is a rub back then the colour can go on. It will be 2 tone :)
Its only done 140,000km

Its got all brand new headlights/tail lights rubbers etc to go on. The trim is pretty immaculate.

My old LS1 engine out of my VT will be going in it aswell as a 4L60e and 4500+ stall. Hoping to run a flat 11 with it one day.

Love the VH SL/E, I learnt to drive in a 253, trimatic VH SL/E and was devastated when it was stolen. My dream project is to build one up again one day in Mercury silver with a mental drivetrain but with all the appearance of a sleeper.

All the best with your project;)

My 1st car was VH with a 253 loved that car seeing all these builds makes me want to build another one once we move up the coast and I have room to do it.

Is this car going to retain power steering and air con? Have been looking at a few different conversions in the earlier commodores as a mate is about to undertake something very similar but not a vh. Most dont seem to have steer and air in them, only seen a couple that do.

We have also been looking at pacemaker exhaust and mounts but it seems that alot of conversion are now using the "tuff mounts" also adelaide made.

just have to be careful to try and use all same companies convertion kits if you use castle maine engine mounts and soomeone else exhaust your gona run into clearance problems .CAE do the full kit for around 2500

We aren't going to touch any CAE stuff, too many dramas.. Pacemaker stuff is easy to get hold of but I'll have a chat to Jason with the tuff mounts too. :)

1340loco, we'll retain power steering but not sure about aircon, although he can have whatever he likes from the vt to make it all work if the clearance is there.

i have just done this conversion the starter relocation kit isnt that bad i belive everyone haveing the dramas arent putting them in correctly one of my mates has dramas and he didnt do it right im using tuff mounts with pacemaker pipes and they fit no worries but im using manual vl rack if u need anything ive done the whole lot lol im also using a turbo 350 which dont work so well with the pacies but bit of trimming its all good

Its not to bad the CAE stuff. Its not ideal but its a starting point. I have done a vh race car with Ls1 in it. I used there engine mounts with no dramas, extractors, the passenger side no dramas but drivers side i modified but took only an hour to do, used a Mal would starter relocation kit and made my own gearbox cross member. All in all was very easy to do. I went a victor supa manifold and fast 4 barrel T/Body to give it the old school look. Worked a treat and made 463rwhp out of a Ls1.

I also used a VS K frame and power steering rack for the power steer side of things. Though i did have to custom up the intermediate steering shaft to adapt to the VS rack. But that wasn't that hard.

Yep the bay has been done already, The car will get to the drivable stage before the rest is done though, just to avoid it getting scratched etc whilst working on it.

Love the two tone and keeping it stock. One of my mates painted his at the end only for his brother to scratch it a week later!! Keep up the good work mate. Keep the photos coming.
