Hi All,

So clearly i had the radio running for a little too long today while i gave the car a spruce up.

Needless to say the battery went flat. Not dead flat, just not enough to start it. So, I threw it on the charger for a while.

Anyway, after a while i went to start it, but it still didnt have enough grunt, so following the "Holden Approved" method, i went ahead and jumpt started it from my wifes car. Quick and easy....no problems.

Anyway, driving along about 20 minutes later wondering what temperature it was outside, and to my surprise it was reading -40!. After about 10 more minutes or driving, it rose to -15.

The Air Con also seemed to be playing up. If i sent it to Auto mode, it didnt seem to really do anything (kinda like it wasnt reading the interior temp properly). If i put it on "C" (IE: Coldest) and then put it on Auto, that works fine - but having said that, i suspect that "C" just means "just blast cold air out untill i say stop", in other words not really paying much attention to cabin temp.

Anyway, thats the story. Has this happened to anyone else?. Has anyone got any ideas on what else i might be able to do to reset things?. I wasnt doing any work in the engine bay, so i dont think its a wiring issue.

I know in my old VZ Senator a series of pedal pumps etc etc would reset the BCM.........not sure if the VE even has any hidden tricks like that.?

Would appreciate any help provided. Holden want me to take the car to them (along with my wallet).

Car is an E1 Senator.

Cheers

Dave

I has a similar thing when my battery was playing up a few years ago. Went to start the car and it cranked but died, things went haywire, the radio changed, and the seat started moving by itself (memory seat). Tried again and it just started but then the outside temperature was reading -40 same as yours. I was worried about it but after a few drives it came good and has been good ever since.

maybe the system was just getting power through the electrics and didnt have full strength and confused the system

How long did u have the radio going for? If it doesn't come right by itself like carneb's did, I reckon a new battery will sort you out

Im probably more thinking about a VT idle relearn actually now that you raise it.

I drove the car all day today, and it appears to have very slowly fixed itself. I dropped into holden (and have now completely confirmed i will not be going back), and after waiting for 2 hours to "hook it up to their computer" they told me that the external amb temp sensor is faulty.

SO now i dunno if it is, or not!. I rang spares and for $48 i think i might just replace it anyway. Apparently gotta pull the front bar off to do it!.

Same thing happened to my WL when I took it to an auto sparky about 6 months ago. It fixed itself the next day, so I never worried about it.

I'd personally procrastinate a few days and see if it comes good, save urself a few bucks.

That would be my guess as well. The computer thingy seems to be able to cut out a few circuits in the event of low charge - so you can "limp home".
Get the battery fully charged & see how things go from there.

You really dont have to pull the front bar off to change the sensor.

Do you want me to do it anyway so you can have a laugh?........or do you have some advice on how to do it otherwise? :)

Seeing as it only takes 5 minutes to pull the bar off, and if it gives me easy access without the risk of removing any more skin from my knuckles, it will have to be pretty easy access for me to leave the bar on!
