Hey guys,
I know there is a couple of threads on here about jacks, but many that were available then, are no longer.
Interested in this Blue point low profile, long reach (snap on):

This CP:

http://www.psiparts.com.au/images/Forum%20Pictures/P8200005.JPG
and this Omega, but it isn't available in Aus!:
http://fastguru.info/images/Today-Prices-Omega-29023-2-Ton-Heavy-Duty-Low_41cvbtwP5hL._463_430.jpg
Basically want a low profile (less than 90mm), long reach, quality jack that will fit under the front of my lowered VE SSV wagon to be able to jack up the front from the crossmember without the need for blocks or using the factory jack to raise it a little.
Don't mind paying the Bluepoint pricing for something quality with a good warranty.
If anyone has experience with any of the above, or similar, let us know
Cheers

The Snap On is exy but well worth it. Nice and low and goes very high very quickly - minimal effort required

A cheaper option may be caravan ramps.
Place under front wheels, drive up, raises a few inches, standard jack fits...lower slowly back onto ramps.

I will call my Snap-on man tomorrow and see if they are still on special. I got mine last month  As Huggies already said the jack alone is normally $550 and stands are another $100 on top of that
This is the best jack I have used on lowered cars. Fits right under the front crossmember of my Calais that is sitting on SSL's

Have you thought about buying a pair of go-jacks to bring the car up to an acceptable height before using a normal trolley jack?
This is what I did as I already had a decent Bluepoint standard height trolley jack and the go-jacks were on special from Supercheap a few years ago. Unfortunately I cant remember how much they cost.
Hopefully you can find the product that suits your application.

as they had faulty rams from 2008-2009
the current ones are good-and the price is good now vs what it cost in 07 and 08

yeh the 1 tonne ram used to fail all the time and they used to replace it as warranty with the 2.8t ram, you can purchase the ram from snap on also.

Have a look at the Armstrong brand, I have a long low jack (about 75mm lowered with a foot pump) like the snap-on jack and it was only around $350, bought that after going through 3 of those light weight aluminium jacks that kept breaking.

I bought it from Gas Weld (they have an online store but the Armstrong jacks arent listed).
I have the #M781, very good quality, very heavy, absolutely faultless in the 2yrs ive had it, take it to every race meeting with me.
Just took a look at it in the garage, its only 75mm low for the first 6 inches after that it steps up to about 150mm, so that blue point jack would still be ideal by far. Unless Armstrong have a model that stays low for as far back at that Blue Point.

Will talk to him bout a group buy if you guys could get some numbers together.. I am sure he would be more than happy to do something like that.
Plus.. We are freighting shit out on TNT, IPEC etc. from my work everyday of the week so I might be able to help out with getting them out to everyone as well.
Happy to help out fellow forum members...
By the way.. I own one of these jacks and they are a great bit of kit.

I have one of these, and They are rated too 1.5T but do already use the same rams as the 3T unit but due to the length of the lifting arm only rated to 1.5T
IMO you want to go and buy from your local franchise owner as then your warranty would be easier if something was to fail, anyone can buy from snap-on. Probally easiest if you just ring your local mechanic and ask when he comes / find a mobile number and get hold of him yourself
Snap on Dealers are only allowed to sell in there designated area, its part of there franchise ownership that they only sell to Withín X range

$445 each including plus whatever it costs for me to freight it out to each of guys. Everyone's price will obviously be a little bit different.
We use TNT and IPEC mainly and have competitive rates with both or alternatively you can pick it up or organise your own freight.. Up to you guys. Doesn't bother me either way.
This was the price if we bought as least 8.. I am already ordering one for a mate so we need at least 7 more to get them at that price.

Roonstain.. You can't put a 2.8t arm on this jack. In the past with the old version of this jack people used to install the 2.8t ram as the rams they came out with were renowned for leaking, by passing internally etc. Snap-on rep has told me though that he hasn't seen or heard of any issues with these latest jacks or their rams. There is no need to fit the 2.8t ram anymore.. The issue has resolved apparently. Plus, fitting the 2.8t ram will not make it a 2.8t jack..

Thanks for your help atomic, but after seeing the Townsville freight price I am going to opt out. I am 1000km inland from Townsville so don't even want to hazard a guess what it will cost me.

vt to vz.. The subframe, just behind the sump. There is two "x" marks imprinted in the frame. Do it from there and it will be fine.

Reach is the problem with that jack, which is identical to the alloy one I have now. Thats why the blue point long reach is looking like the one.
Have been speaking with snap-on online and they are very helpful, freight is very reasonable only $65.00 to my door which is near the NT/QLD border up north, so for all you down south it should be dirt cheap.
Get online to the site and search for SNX1LLTJ its impossible to find any other way.

Maybe we should have a list including the state everyone is in. Might be easier if we can get 5/10 people in each state and find a local rep who can do us a good price... would save on shipping.
Alternatively, if we all buy from one guy in NSW, wait till a forum member is driving sydney-melbourne and get them to bring them down (obviously getting paid a little to cover petrol costs).
As mentioned earlier, the saving is going to be chewed up by postage....

I have a 20,000kg WTD bottle jack purchased from transquip. Quality seems good. Mostly used to jack up a tractor and no problems so far. Will be considering their low profile trolly jack for sure.

Hey guys,
I know there is a couple of threads on here about jacks, but many that were available then, are no longer.
Interested in this Blue point low profile, long reach (snap on):

This CP:

and this Omega, but it isn't available in Aus!:
http://fastguru.info/images/Today-Prices-Omega-29023-2-Ton-Heavy-Duty-Low_41cvbtwP5hL._463_430.jpg
If anyone has experience with any of the above, or similar, let us know
Cheers
Mark
Wow, the long reach SNAP ON would cost a bit. Depends on what you intend to use it for. Ya definately can't go past quality and dollars when your body is under the car.

You can get them at costco - probably cheaper too
Thing is, the low section of it is not long enough, so wont get to anywhere to be able to lift the entire front of rear by itself

Sorry mate.. Most of the people wanting them needed them freighted so then it became not so economical.
I can still get them for people who want them and are happy to pick them up.
Just won't be at a special group buy price.. That's all.

Hey guys,
Just FYI, Span on currently have a special on the standard height jack where you get 2 free axle stands (worth $179). I spoke to my local snapon dealer, he said he probably cant do the deal on the low profile version, but there may be the same special with the low profile stands coming up in the near future.
Anyway here is the deal http://www.snapontools.com.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/5967/Aus_March.pdf
Ill keep an eye out and if the do the same deal with the low profile one ill let you guys know.

Hey guys,
Really dumb question but how do you size up a trolley jack for a car? Even though a Commodore can weigh 1700kg to 2000kg would a trolley jack rated at 1500kg be ok? I understand that I'm not lifting up the whole car...just one wheel...but do I size the jack up for half the weight of the car...what's the normal rule of thumb?
And secondly my trusty old sca trolley jack is on it's way out so it's now time to look at getting a new trolley jack. Out of the two below, which one would be the better choice? I have a VY SS with a fairly decent stereo so I'm guessing my car would weigh roughly 1800kg or more now
Arcan low profile trolley jack. Rated at 1.8 tonnes however can lift up to 3 tonnes and goes as low as 100mm
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=111559265237
Or Torin Big Red Jack rated at 1.5 tonnes & goes as low as 85mm

Thanks guys

I've got an Arcan one, similar to that link. Can't really fault it, excellent jack but it still wont fit under my car to jack it from the engine/diff... And my car isn't overly low.
It's fine for doing one wheel at a time but I like to do a pair usually... I just drive it up on to a couple of bits of wooden ramps first.
They're nice and low at the lifting point but the rest of the body is usually too high
Either will be fine in terms of load rating

The problem that I see with all these "low profile" or "racing jacks" is while they are low at the jacking point, the body of the jack quickly raises to the height of a standard jack, meaning you aren't going to get these things much past the seal of the car. The blueprints look to be the best where they have enough length to get under the car and jack from either the engine or the diff
duke5700
24-06-2015, 05:16 PM
If it is the same as the snap on jack it $200 less :up2sum:
I'm not massively worried about super low profile, my days of low cars are mostly over. The SS sits at factory height now, easier to fit bigger tyres.
looks good, price looks nasty

Know the LS sumps are very rigid though a block of wood across it would be a safer option!

Figure of speech I'd say...likely meant the k frame ;)
As said, the body of them is pretty big. Not sure how they go under a stock height commodore but mine can't even get under the missus cruze. Do the same thing I do with my GTS and drive it up on to wooden ramps if I need to get both sides in one go.
Fine for doing one wheel at a time though, the low profile fits under my side skirts easily
I bought one of these from Autobarn, was about $260 I think from memory, its been awesome.
