im looking at buying a 09 ssv, it has stripes on the bonnet roof and boot. if i buy the car i want to remove them but i am worried the paint underneith will be different to the rest of the car as paint fades...
anyone had any issue with this? it might be either a make or break deal.
i gather a hair dryer and a few hours they will come off. just more worried with fade. cars blue if that makes a difference

You should be able to get a detailer to polish the car and that will bring it out as if there were no stripes there.

I took a set of on a 08 in ignition orange and even after a real good buff you could still see the stripes, but the car had been out side most of it's life with 110k on the clock.
If the car is low km and been garaged you should be ok but it will need to be buffed.

Also a hairdryer might not be enough, you'll need a proper hot air gun as a hairdryer doesnt get the plastic hot enough over a significant surface area. You'll be there all day going little sections. Hot air guns are like $20 from Aldi

It's under 3 yrs old at worst, could even be under 2 yrs old, so as long as it hasn't spent its whole life outside a good polish by someone who knows their stuff should make the stripes disappear totally.

Heat gun would prob be your best bet, but take your time with it & do it small timed blocks as to not damage the paint work.

I never had that much drama getting em off, I used a heat gun but as DCV1NU said take it slow so you don't knock the paint around.

Colours the same no fade thank god... But u can see alot of scratch swirl marks to where the stickers use to be then perfect paint under them... Nothing my buff and some menzerna couldnt get out. Spent all day on it just finished up now still have most of the roof to go and alot of residue still to get off.

Sounds like you've done it tuff mate but once it's all off and you give it a hit with the buff it will be worth it, I can't stand them stripes.

hey just a little hint. when you go to remove the residue use a small plastic scraper about 5cm wide and use a mixture of turps and metho probably favouring more to the turps side of things in a pump action spray bottle. spray it on and wait about two minutes. don,t be shy about how much you use. when you,re ready just gently scrape all the residue to a central spot and then lift it off. you might have to do this a few times. then go over the area with turps and a clean rag till it,s all gone and then give the car a good buff and all should be sweet. hope this helps.

Thanks terry ill see how i go with this product i got today. Simular style but a citrus spray called oomph glue and stain remover seems to be working alright but shit theres some tough spots ahead i may need sonething more potent. What a task

I had silver stripes on a black VE. Fair dinkum HSV ones with a verification HSV plate inside the engine bay - lol.
I parked the car in sun to heat up all day... then peeled the sticker part off... which left alot of the glue residue. I parked it in the shade and next day used a special glue removal solvent I bought from ProTec paint supply shop. I spayed in small area and let it dissolve the glue a bit then wiped it off... i used a sh*t ton of lint free cloths replacing regularly, after the glue was gone i washed and polished and it was all good.
I tried the heat gun thing trying to get the glue and sticker all in one - was much easier to piss the sticker off then deal with the glue with the right solvent that did not damage the paint.

i think he means the build plate. should be held on with 2 pop rivets which you just drill out and then if it worries you put 2 pop rivets back in the holes.

i don,t want to say it but boy it look,s like you made hard work out of that. i think i,ve had a lot more practice at it though. i,ve stripped and reapplied track stripes a few times now. a lot of second hand cars are showing up with them on. normally takes about 8hrs to do. silver does look good when it,s new but doesn,t seem to go the distance. some people just don,t like them full stop. good luck.

Good luck mate - I had my company name on the side skirt of my old Black VY ute, and could always see them afterwards - no matter how much I polished it.
Also when I took the name off my rear window it looked like it had faded the rear timt also - could always see that too.
Also, dust seems to settle weirdly where stickers used to be...
Hope it works out well for you though!
