G'day all,
Since it's coming into the festive season, I've got a few road trips planned and need to ensure my salad rolls are kept fresh and my coca cola is kept cool.
Who has a 12V on the floor in the back seat on their commodores?
How is it powered/wired?
What size and model do you have?
Where did you get it from?
I would like something accessible from the drivers seat and large enough to keep a six-pack and some lunch cool.
I have a 32L Engel in my Prado so leaning towards their 14L or 15L offerings. I should probably have a bit of a look at the Waeco offerings also.
Cheers

i have 1 of these in between the seats in the truck http://www.waeco.com.au/products5.asp?id=205&subCatId2=64&subCatId=58&catId=57
chrissy 09 in brisbane this was keeping my beers colder than the fridge in the house we were staying at. the bonus of running on 12 volt in car and 240 at house is also handy. won't hold a slab of stubbies but will hold slab of cans:thumbsup:

Can't go wrong with either waeco or engell they're probably the best known brands and for a good reason. . Really its just a matter of heading down to any decent camping shop and choosing the size model to suit your needs. My dad is pretty much obsessed with his waeco, taking it on almost every trip we have ever been on. 10+ years old and now permanently living in our boat as a food fridge and it still hasn't missed a beat.

Waeco is ok. But engel is better, but you pay for it. I have a 38L Engel. Power is from an engel plug I hard wired into the back of my subi.

father in law had both an engel and a waeco when on a big trip up north and he said the waeco shat all over the engel. he said that the engel just wouln't cycle off and hardly kept anything cool

engle or waco is a bit like ford or holden
they are both good brands that do the job
i have a 110 liter waco and the kids can reach in while it is in the car
but i would also like a smaller fridge for work and everyday use
just not to sure about thermo coolers ,and haven't had good luck with them in the past

Well it must of been US then. My one gets down to -16 if I push it. But I normally just run it at -2 with glass beer bottles. Duty cycle is quite low. I can run it for 8 hours on the tiny battery in my Subaru before the low voltage switch cuts it out. Waeco's are ok but their pumps aren't as efficient and the construction is certainly not as rugged. They get the job done but pending where your going to use it efficiency and ruggedness must be taken into consideration. We Territorians don't fark around with keeping our piss cold. Ask anyone who lives in this climate and they'll tell you Engel is the best.

Thermo coolers are fine for the car. But they only drop temp ~20 below ambient. Ie fine in an aircon car. Useless if it's above 30

it would need to be keeping it cold while the car is not running
Ie: while i'm at work
so that would rule them out then

i did damage the temp control butons on my waco , but it was bouncing around in the back of my ute while i was racing a trail bike along a rough 4 wheel drive track
still works fine but i do have to pull the switch apart to adjust the temp
but once it is set to a temp i like it doesn't need to be changed anyway

4x4 Australia magazine just did a comparo of a heap of leading fridges. The ARB 47 litre won the comparo, with honorable mentions for the Engel 40 litre based on short compressor run times, and the Waeco for consistent temp control. The comparison also viewed the FridgeMate by Evakool as a good product.
