I have my Monaro bonnet going in for paint tomorrow and am not sure whether the clip in plastic flutes need to be painted? Could someone with one of these bonnets tell me it the flutes are meant to be painted with the bonnet, or are they just left as the black plastic?
Thanks in advance.

When we did mine we painted them separate as the bonnet was red and flutes black, aswell as the mesh bits.

Paint the whole flute and then put them in after paint/buffing

Thanks mate. As the bonnet is going to be painted Phantom Mica, not sure whether to get the inserts painted the same colour or just leave them black plastic?

Leave them out clip them in once painted. Unless you NEVER intend on getting them out for any reason

Nice one, that seems like the easy option. Will just have to keep the Aerospace 303 on them to stop fading.

If it were me I'd offset the colour of them, do you have shadow chrome wheels or any other colour on the car?

That's just me though as I think they get lost same colour when the bonnet is a highlight

Or clear coat them if you like the bare black

Rod,

Mine are painted black, best to paint seperatly though, I then had the mesh painted silver to offset the all black

Funny you should say that, saw a Devil Yellow GTO on the way home tonight and he had a thick black stripe painted down the centre of the bonnet, you could hardly see the bonnet flutes, looked like a standard bonnet at a glance. Unfortunately I am not a fan of different colours though, only thing not black on the car is the chrome lip on the Verde Madonna rims.

Thanks Todd, I like the look of the silver mesh, does make them stand out a lot more

Strange as I think devil yellow was only colour to get factory black painted flutes, I could be wrong though that's just what I've seen over the years.

This is mungrels and mine black on red

personally I like them colour coded, not a fan of the unpainted plastic look.

I left the grills stock grey and went black on the flutes, painted separately of course.

Stock Holden was colour coded for VZ monaro and unpainted (black plastic) for CV8Z monaro's

Got this fitted up recently, looks awesome. One thing I didn't realise is that the flutes are actually functional, they let air into the engine bay. I was always of the impression that they were blocked.

if you have the complete kit intact they actually are mostly blocked, i removed the rubber pieces from the rear of the grills so the air flows straight over the motor but i have also modified the under skin of the bonnet to allow the air to flow straight as if you dont fit the rubber boots a good portion of the airflow will go into the bonnet skin itself.

I never got the rubber bits in the kit, when you look in the flutes you can clearly see the motor both sides. There is also no gap where air can enter the bonnet skin. I bought it from JHP.
