HI Guys,
My current tyres are about to expire so I wanted your opinion on replacements. I have bridgestone potenza RE050 245/40/19 and 275/35/19. I was thinking about the same tyres or perhaps even a 20" rim and tyre upgrade. Whats a comparable tyre?

Kumho's are pretty good! Trying a set on the front of the Tonner atm & can't fault em yet! Good in the dry & wet. Bridgestone sure are great but @ 2.5x the price of Kumho.

Just put on some federal Evos. Real grippy.

Bridgestone potenza RE050, I see no reason to change either.

not sure if relevant as I drive a VY with SSV wheels, but I have the Dunlop Sportmax TT (top of Dunlops range) and i find them fantastic. great alround performer in wet and dry conditions.

Very happy with the Continental ExtremeContact DW's on my Calais, Prefer them the Yokohama Advans that were previously on there. Will be purchasing again.

Aside from the OEM being a fantastic tyre and hard to beat, i'm thinking of trying the new Michelin pilot SuperSport, supposedly they provide similar grip to the current Pilot CUP tyres but with great wear and wet weather performance as well.

You could always buy a cheaper tyre like someone suggested but to me, your life is worth more than a saving of $500.

I was running 040As for a while, but have since changed to RE002s. IMO they are a better tyre (and cheaper) as they are new technology....

I find kumhos just arent up to the task of handling the power of a V8 personally, had them on my V6 and they were fine
Ive also tried federal evos, which are really sticky in the dry, but terrible in the wet, they also have a really bad quality of manufacture - they seperate, have highs & lows (out of round) so they cause vibration and noise
I hate to say it, but at the end of the day, you get what you pay for
Falken FK452s are good and on the cheaper end of the expensive range ($500 per tyre) - this is what Im using now

ive been using Maxxis MA-Z1 Victra on my 19X8 rear. the stick real good wet or dry and price is right.

not sure if they come in 275 rear but

I just put a 20" wheel and tyre package on my GTO. Went with Nankang NS2's mainly to keep the whole package to a reasonable cost. They seem to be an OK performing tyre but bloddy hell they are noisy... Can't wait for them to be shagged to get em off, although I have heard you get good tyre life out of them, hence the noise I guess... I think in this case, when it comes to tyres, money talks, and you get what you pay for!!

IMO...The Federal evo595..255/35/20. That I have just put on (only done 240km)..Seem OK in the dry, but as for the wet..Leave your car in the garage, they are wofull.
I had the Falken 452 245/30/20 A really grippy tire in the dry and ok in the wet untill they get below half.
Mind you I have 425rwkw to try and put down so there is little choice for me in the low to mid range price. I will be going to Bridgstone befor too long

Changed my last set to Michelins, they are a good tyre however their wear rate is shocking. I've had them for a year and a half and they definitely won't pass a rwc next march. ( I would be lucky to do 15,000 kms a year).

Another vote for the factory bridgestone's, but if your on a budget i'd go with either the Kuhmo Ku31's or Hankook K107's.

I just picked up a new set of 20s which had brand new rubber on them.. I haven't fitted them yet but the rubber on them is Accelera. Which I've never heard of before but they get the usual cheapo brand mixed reviews.

I'll see what they're like for a few weeks and if they are infact as bad as some reviews I've read I'll be pulling them off and chucking some KU31's on having had them before they're great for their price.

Yes the new Supersports are suppose to have far superior tread wear than previous models, they are standard fitment on the Ferrari 458.

Bridgestone potenza RE050, I see no reason to change either.

I do: they're no longer made and stocks are running low unless you want the police-spec high load rated versions (at least in 245/45 R18 for a VE SS).

Potenza S001 is the replacement but I'm yet to see them turn up in a tyre test; you would assume being newer they would be better. The current hotness is apparently the Michelin Pilot Sport 3 but they don't come in the right size for the VE SS (although I think they do for the SSV 19s?). The previous tyre test general all round champion was the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric but they're also out of production! (Yes, I've been looking into this lately as my tyres are getting close to end of life...)

That sucks then ... you would hope the replacement is as good if not better though.

Don't do many K's in our Sportswagon but have noticed the wear on the Bridgestones are excessive! Do a shitload in my Tonner with the Kumhos on the front & they wear is minimal, haven't let go either!

My local tyrepower shop that I have come to trust has suggested KU31 Kuhmo as the good combo of wear, price and performance. I'm going for 275 rear and 245 fronts for my Adventra in 18's. Not many options for the load rating required and keeping the front and rear rolling diameter the same for AWD.

My local tyrepower talks up the Kumhos too they used to talk up Toyos for my old VT too, so I'm not sure how much I can trust them. I have Federal 595s on the rear and they've lasted over a year (35,000km) and have not had an easy life but still grip really well in the dry, not great in the wet but i leave traction control on in the wet. I dont like how the Federal shoulder is rounded compared to my KU31 fronts. So I don't know which way to go...

I know the size is a bit smaller (235/40R18) but on my ute I have tried Bridgestone RE050A, Toyo Proxes 4, Maxxis MA-V1, Kumho KU36 and have now just put on some Nitto NT05s on the front only. (Still Kumho KU36s on rear). The nitto's out grip every other tyre I have had by a long shot. Haven't had a good chance to try them in the wet yet but the one day of rain we did get recently showed they are pretty good, the car would oversteer long before it would understeer.

All the tyres I mentioned I have used at track days and today was my first chance to try the NT05s out at the track and they are an absolutely awesome tyre for a street compound. Made in Japan and can be bought pretty cheap too. I paid $227/tyre on special.

Also FWIW I have had 3 Kumho KU36s crack along the width of the tread. One did it 2 weeks after fitting them.

I have Sport Maxx TTs on the GTS. This is the second set for it and I really like them. Low noise, good grip. First set of TTs were good for 37,000 km. I am also putting these on the wifes VX Calais in the next week or so. Previous tyres on the VX were Pirelli Zero Rossos which did not wear very well at all.

I run Kumho KU31's on my SSZ. They are quiet, corner well, and are good wet and dry. Of course when giving it a boot full they will spin, but that's expected out of a big cammed, high stalled V8 with 4.11:1 gearing lol.

The OEM tyres are good but if u looking for a cheaper option the kumho ku31 arent too bad on price with reasonable grip.

While I can't comment on some of the tyre suggestions discussed here, what I can say is that I've never had a bad experience with Falken FK452's and I see no reason to change. I think they're good value for money.

I just bought a set of 4 OEM Bridgestone RE050A's to replace the KU31's on the front.

I found the khumo's understeered for my liking near the limit. These hang on better. I think it's in the sidewall and slight wider tyre fit on the 20x8 in rim.

The khumho's might fit better and perform better on the 20x8.5 HSV front rims.

I have a spare set new if interested of the RE050A's.

Just ordered a pair of Bridgestone Potenza S001 for the front of my SS so will post how they go in a few weeks. Hoping for good things - they're supposed to be awesome in the wet and their treadwear rating is much higher than that of the RE050A (which I have been getting about 50-60k out of!)

My usual choice is Federal 595 evo's, I reckon they are on par with the big name brands....and for the price they are easily the best bang for buck.

New wheels have Nankang NS2's, biggest heap of shit tyre ive ever had....stock VZ Maloo with 255/30/20 on the rear and it skates all over the place.

For the price I prefer Falkens or Kumho's but I run Falkens because in 245/35x19 they are a bigger tyre than the same size Kumho, both in tread width and bag width so cover the edge of my 8.5" rims better.
This is the opposite to Falkens 275/35x20 which is a small tyre for its size, see: http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=148682&highlight=tyre+width

Hey guys, in dire need of a new set of boots but work is keeping me from doing a good hunt for a deal. Would anyone be in the know as far as prices go? Had Yoko v103's recommended, after something that will wear well but have good performance wet or dry. Less than $500 a pop ideal, had a quote for the v103's at $500, Falken ze912 at $325, any ideas or where I should be looking?
Sorry, after 19's for my SSV ute, generally it's my girlfriends car (I've got a work car) but on the weekends I don't mind giving it a flogging.
Cheers.
