Had a knee reco done not long ago, my VZ SS is a M6. So i thought i buy a cheap daily driver in auto between $2500 to $4000 as there are plenty with RWC and REGO out there. So what do people have as a daily if there LS1,2,3 is there weekend car. Plus might be a good idea to have a daily as i do 500 to 600ks a week, good way to keep ks down aswell.

Id say you cant beat a e series ford or a vs commodore for that $4000 mark. May even find one with under 120,000km and top condition. Plenty of power those cars.

The commys are better on fuel but the fords have excellent v8 like torque.

Just a shitter CBR600 F3. It's quicker than the car so is fun enough. Got it for a steel at 3k although I did have to fix it up after I slid it down the track at hidden valley so $500 went on it there. She's tuff though. Remained straight and only cosmetic damage.
As can be seen here. Looks brand new with the new fairings.

I just bought a 1990 pulsar Q for 1900 with rwc and a couple months rego. Got sick of driving the Maloo 100ks + each day.

Got the bike (gsxr) but don't use it to get to work as its mainly hwy driving and ****s the tyres to quick.

Most of your early 90's Jap small stuff are good options in this price range. As always, check them out well.
For local stuff, pretty hard to go past a VR V6. Engines are near bullet proof (better than VS Ecotec's), not much goes wrong, and what does is usually cheap to fix with easy access to cheap new/used parts.

My old 94 VR Acclaim V6 with 367,000 on the clock and still going altho the trans has been playing up for the last 6k but if youre looking for a cheap run around car cant go past one of these. This one only cost me $1k two years ago back when it had 263,000k on it and even now gets about 580K's to a 60L tank.

Yeah plenty VR/VS Commodore, saw a EF falcon GLI for $2500 RWC, 12 months rego,220000ks. Saw a immaculate 1989 Corolla 1 owner with books plain as anything so less things to break for $2400 and auto.

Just spent $1700 rebuilding it (Original driveline lasted ~20,000km which is amazing), but has no fuel or rego costs so works out pretty damn cheap. (Plus is usually faster in peak hour traffic and a lot less frustrating).

My daily driver / work hack is a 1999 4x2 V6 Rodeo single cab trayback. Its comfy enough around town and on trips, has good performance, Hi ride suspension gives 4x4 like clearence. Bad points are its only has an open diff - needs LSD, and it has a thirst worse than the town drunk. I was getting about 500 km to a 75 ltr tank when I first got it. Now Im flat out getting 400 - 450 to a tank

If the VR is really babied it gets around 640 to the tank but 580 is my avrage fuel usage, not too bad since it has no O2 sensor left on it for the lean cruise.

It doesn't use the o2 sensor for lean cruise mate. Leaner than stoich is always open loop.

About to re register my trusty old VL. Was my main car before buying the HSV and have kept it sitting around for the past year and a bit. Time to get it back on the road and stop putting K's on the good car, more so than the fuel usage difference ect.

No shitter here either. I have a phobia of having a accident in a older daily when my modern 5 star safety rating car is sitting at home in the garage. I always want the car I drive daily to be my best car.

ah ok, when i first removed it the orange check engine light kept coming on shortly after the t/c locked up and everyone i asked said it was just there to adjust the mixture for lean cruise and nothing else.

Come to think of it I don't even think they had lean cruise back then. O2 sensors provides feedback to the PCM to ensure stoich fueling is being commanded. Better to have it than not to

I drive my 240 cam, 4600 stall VZ clubsport everyday rain hail or shine and love it. It's been tuned so well, that I never get sick of it. I couldnt imagine having a shitter and miss the torque of what im used to. I don't see the point of spending all that money to just stare at it in the garage.

Cammed (232/234) VY II SV8 manual with 3.9 gears runs at 10 to 11l per 100, i do 70km to work and 70 return everyday 6 days a week always 650+ km's a tank, thought about a little runaround but i'd lose money and nice to have the power for overtaking etc.

Funny guys mention VR/VS commies as i see a few on my run everyday, like a few said goood on fuel(the ones i see are gas) and parts are easy to get and cheap and the motors don't die if serviced well
