Hey All,

Just wanting to see if any one knows if a E3 instrument cluster would be able to go into a S2 SS.

I have a VZ calais and stepping into the SS I find the cluster is a bit bland so I want to change it to a E3 "oracle" cluster.

The one I'm looking at is brand new and is just a matter of finding out if i will work and if Holden can program it to suit the SS. An idea on price would be handy aswell.

Cheers

Are you talking about a VE series II SS?

I believe Wonky has put an E3 cluster in his Series I SS-V without too much hassle.

Have a read thru this thread....

Yes its a 2011 Series 2 VE SS.
What I mean by cluster is the instrument cluster which holds, speedo, tacho, fuel gauge etc.

No it cant be done unfortunatly, cause HSV have programmed the clusters to only work with correct HSV vins.

I don't believe the above information is completely correct.

There are people on the forum who have succussfully put MY08 HSV clusters into equivilent year SS/SSVs, a search should reveal some more information.

I've looked into it myself and there is a guy who pops up on eBay who can reprogram the clusters however I don't have his name.

The problem you will have is that the E3 clusters will not transfer into Holden's because HSV changed the manufacturer which complicated the VIN searching problem further.

I too had a HSV cluster in my VY SS and miss the improved look and functionality myself.

I haven't seen a post of anyone putting a Calais cluster into an SS though.

MY09 onwards is when HSV started programming their clusters, if the op had a MY08 or prior then it wouldnt be an issue.

This whole area is bloody confusing with conflicting information!!

Just when I thought it was not possible to put HSV dash clusters in non HSV vehicles MY9.5 and later I read that REAP3R put a MY10 HSV cluster in his MY9.5 SSV, plugged it in and it worked straight off!! I'd love a triple display dash in mine for the instantaneous fuel readings in particular but am now totally confused on what will and won't work............

It would be great if someone just put the info into a table in a PDF or a thread in a tech section with the concrete info. :)

I know what you mean, I have got my Aeroforce Interceptor showing instantaneous fuel consumption so there is atleast that.

I really think they could have done better with the SSV Instrument cluster, perhaps ditched the SIC all together and upgraded the Cluster?

Something else to think about: The MY12 Commodore Equip has the following feature:

TRIPLE WINDOW TRIP COMPUTER!

I'd be happy with the Calais trip computer in my car, but it seems hard to find Holden Service that actually have an interest in it.

so one thing to keep in mind. At the end of the day the cluster is just a peace of material. The E3 cluster doesn't have any extra functionality then the Calais cluster. With this in mind this is what I did:

I have an 07 SS.
I got the same model Calais cluster put in by holden. Not cheap cost about 1k total.
I then got an E3 dash off ebay, for $250.
The idea was just to take the cover and the actual cluster peace itself and put it over the top of the Calais dash.
This is where I came unglued because Holden had changed dash providers the clips that hold it in place had also changed. You won’t have this issue with a series 2 SS
Anyway a lot of sanding and modding later, it now fits. It is rough but once it is in you won't be able to tell the difference..
Plan to put it in next weekend. If all goes well I will post up some pics.

^ sounds like a good way of doing it, I'm keen to see pics.

This is it with the Calais dash

The white needles really don't match the triple gauge ones.

DOH still don't have enough posts to put links in even though I have been a member for 4 years. Go figure.

Thanks, that is the VE fascia been sold now. If you search for VE fascia there is heaps on here or check out the alpine site. Triple gauge pod is from JHP and so is the carbon fibre around the shifter.
The gauges were original a binacle gauge sold by JKGMH at oze gauges, when I went to the triple gauges I just got another gauge of the same brand off ebay...it is actually a clock :hide:

Find that very hard to believe. Yeah they may have done that but i'm sure the dash would be able to be hooked up easily...they are all Commodores and hsv's are largely built on the Holden production line, with just final assembling and add-ons at HSV.

Thanks but please be aware this is by no means a 'plug and play job' there is a lot of cutting and sanding to get it to fit. It looks messy behinds the scenes.
Having said that it looks great once all in and it works

Believe it mate, many have tried at a high cost.
It takes multiple calls to a holden techline with multiple authorisation codes, then at the last hurdle it all fails.

Only earlier model Holdens using a pre MY9.5 hsv dash will succeed.
