Hi All
I have a 2004 SS auto and have just had a dyno tune,The kw read was 228.8 but the owners manual says 235 as a basic car, mine has bigger exhaust and K&N Filter
I don't know if owners manual figure is at the engine and mine at the wheels
So is my power output about what it should be or is the engine a bit tired-I appreciate any feedback on this. The car is going better than ever

thats right the owners manual is at the engine and yours in at the wheels, plus being a dyno dont take much notice of that figure as there just a tuning tool, some read insanely high and some read low. if its going better than ever that means they obviously did a good job and your happy so thats all that matters. plus that seems like a pretty good figure anyway

235 is a flywheel figure and the generally accepted drivetrain loss for an A4 is around 25%, so your car probably came from the factory with 176rwkw, + or - 10.
For an auto LS1 with just exhaust (no extractors I assume), K&N filter and tune I'd expect around 210rwkw so I'd say it was a very happy dyno!! The only thing which matters is the percentage gain. What was the power before the tune?

yes definitely happy-the power comes on so smooth, even uphill- car doesn't bog down like b4.It had a different program when I bought it (ex cop car) but the Holden dealer removed it coz the car was under warranty still-it DID spin the wheels in 2nd b4 they got their computer into it- I was not happy when I got it back and drove it-I went back and they said it gone nothing they could do about it

boys didn't run it b4 the tune as they wanted the engine to cool down so they could change the plugs and leads

I'm always suspicious of places who don't do a before run, no matter what their excuse, especially when the after figure is so inflated.

Your car is a freak Brodie!! :goodjob: Also manuals typically pull significantly more than autos.

sounds like I definitely on a "happy dyno" still as was said earlier--long as I happy, which I am

You reckon 210 is about right but 228 is way out there???

maybe I should do a run on another dyno to see how the numbers match up

What would that achieve?
Who cares what I dyno tells you.

dont worry about it you said your happy with how it drives and thats what matters!!!

Mate forget the dyno figure. If your happy with the car, thats all that counts.
What if the numbers dont match up? Spend more money? More mods?
Im sure you didnt buy the car just so you could get a dyno chart to stick on your wall.
Just enjoy what you've got.

Not bad for a car with 180,000km on the clock. I was certainly blown away

Only basing that on my experiences eg. the two VZ SS A4s I had tuned by G&D at their old shop each ran about 210 give or take with similar mods (second one got closer to 220 with extractors) and I've seen heaps of cars VT-VZ LS1s run at Chev's and most (apart from Brodie's freak) run similar figures. In my experience (only as an observer) 228 would be very high on an A4 with only exhaust and tune.
As I said, it's just a pity they didn't do a before run so he knew what the gain was, as that's the only thing which matters from a figures point of view. He is very happy with it and that's what counts!! :yup:

Slab or 2 would be a much better investment of your time and money :)
