Hi there,

I recently came across a MOMO wheel called "Cavillino". For those of you that own a VH SS, it is the woodgrain version of your wheel.

Now I'm not entirely sure if it came out of a HDT or not, but the VL Director on ebay for $150,000 has one of them on it.

I've checked the PDF that has all the HDT MOMO information on BrockCommodores.com, but it doesn't have a picture of my wheel for the HDT Director.

My question to you fellas is: did this wheel come from factory?

I'd post pictures and links to the VL director on ebay, but I haven't got enough posts yet.

Hi

I also believe the Momo Cavillino was the name of the steering wheel that was released in a non timber version too. I have always been a Momo fan and never liked the timber wheels but always had that name Cavillino in the back of my head as a steering wheel to have in my future HDT!

I can not confirm but maybe even the wheel out of the red colored VHSS or blue VK Group A was called the Cavillino but I can not confirm 100%.

Some other Momo/HDT freak stuck in the 1980's on these forums will be able to answer your query 100%!

Richard

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the info. I know that there was a leather version of my wheel in the VH SS, same model number and size, which is probably what you are talking aobut.

Hopefully someone well versed in HDTs comes along.

Ain't going to get into no argument.....but, the simple answer to this question is a VERY big "NO".
That wheel was NEVER fitted to any VL Director, as original equipment, by Brock.
Cheers, Pickles.

Well that clarifies it!

I'm guessing the $150,000 VL Director on ebay has a non-factory MOMO then?

Search this in Ebay: 1987 Holden Commodore Brock HDT VL Director A Sedan

And in the description it says it is the 10th VL Director.

It looks to me that the MOMO on the car has Brock's signature button too.

I see.

So the VL Director on ebay has an aftermarket MOMO on it. It's the 10th build model.

What would this roughly be worth then? I have no use for it as I don't own an older Commodore.

Yes, I called a fellow named Donald from the details on ebay. He said this style of steering wheel DID come on his VL from factory.

Surely with only 12 build models there'd be pictures of all of them floating around?

Oh, I'm not really looking for an argument here either to be honest. It could go either way and I'd still be happy.

I have seen three..(photos only) and all three had different steering wheels.

The VL in the photo was stolen and recovered. All the original interior was taken including the body and compliance plates. That steering wheel was the closest thing the then owner could find that sort of emulated the original wheel. So no - Pickles is right - that's not an original fitted HDT Momo wheel to that Director.

it's common knowledge mate amonst the HDT circles, I knew the previous owner Brad when he offered a generous rewrd for the return of his interior bits. You will also see the engine bay is devoid of the holden issue plates that are affixed to the passenger side fire wall - the current owner to his credit has never tried to conceal this fact, stating he has a letter from GM to prove the authenticity of the vehicle regardless of the fact the plates were stolen.

So, roughly, how much do you think this wheel would be worth?

As I said before, I really have no use for it.

l'm on your team mate, BUT looking at all the Directors on the net, which l think l saw 5 or 6, they all had different s/wheels. So l would say that even if the naysayers are wrong, its prob only worth as much as any other aftermarket Momo wheel.:(
