Hi all I am thinking of changing from a twin 2 1/2 to a twin 3" on my monaro ls1 it's 390 rwhp now and sounds alright but it feels and sounds like it could do with some thing a little better I have 4 into 1 difillipos with 3"" collectors, whats the best 3" around at the moment

Thanks Michael

Before this thread gets closed as I'm sure it will, in my opinion the best sounding 3" on VT-VZ is the Di Filippo. Mind you, I've not heard (that I know of) a Manta 3" on an LS1 and they're also meant to be good.

Unlikely to make any more power changing to a twin 3" system.
Probably better off just changing your mufflers and resonator.:teach:

Yep, pay the extra and get a twin 3" difilippo, no droning and a superb deep note. One day I'll put up a quality sound recording of mine.

I've read in another thread that you still have the factory cats, I'd be changing them first before any other changes!

Im guessing that a quote for stainless, get mild steel if you use the car alot as it wont rust out either and the plus is that will sound a bit better as well.

As Jase said, get the Ballistic 100cpsi cats from Sureflo (see sponsor section on here). Excellent value for money, steel substrate and more power (though technically illegal :D). Given there are not a lot of DF systems around I've heard of a surprising number of DF cats failing.

Don't think DF do a 3" mild steel system???

Go the 3" DF buddy:thumbsup:!! Sure it may cost you a tad more than the others BUT I guess the question is.. can you put a price on the best note??

PS. DF only do 3" in Stainless!

Mr Muzz,

I had a 2.5" cat back bolted to some hi flow cats (?) and some Pacemaker Tri Y's. Was ok but I didn't like it.

Got some HPC coated Pacemaker 4-1's 1 7/8 headers and 4" Ballistic cats, removed the centre mufflers and put some Edelbrock SDT's on the rear.... dude it sounded OK but the drone at 1600 RPM 100kph... BOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRR!

So after all the time and Wonks telling me abut the DF, I realized I had spent almost the same amount that a DF would have cost me :vpo:

No drone, sounds amazing in the car and is not as loud as most people think they would, if your in Melbourne we can meet up and go for a drive.

DF all the for pre VE.

I Have a 2 1/2'' Difillipo on a lowered 2002 GTO coupe.I have been thinking of changing to something else because of ground clearance issues stemming I think from low extractor exit making cats extra low. Was thinking of maybe Pacemaker Extractors and Ballistic cats.

Pacemaker tri-Y's will be better for clearance, but 4-1's will most likely be worse as they hang low also

I'm with Game On, my DF system is quite low and the cats get a good scraping, it's actually the lowest point of the car. Is it worth going to a reputable exhaust shop and having a custom setup tailored to your needs?

Unfortunately being new here doesn't stop threads being closed when they ask questions that have been asked and answered (not that there's any one correct answer as different people have different tastes) in a million other threads.

I'm very surprised that the mods haven't closed it yet and asked you to :search:

Just a quick update for those who are interested I decided to go for a twin 3" manta system 200cpi cats and the result is awesome sounds the way a cammed ls1 should and no noticeable drone (although monaros seem to be a little quieter inside the car than commys)
