I was driving home yesterday after getting my son from daycare doing the speed limit when this wanker decide to sit up my rear end. We were coming up on an area often used by police.
I have an R8 and he was that close I could see his windscreen between the rear spoiler and boot.
To make matters worse, we both pulled up at a set of lights when he let rip with a heap of words that my son does not need to hear. He acused me of being the sort of driver that creates accidents.
What an idiot.
To make it even worse than it was, it was poring down with rain.

Unfortunately this is all too common in brisbane. I went to sydney a few weeks ago and didn't seem to be this attitude down there. Maybe it's something to do with speed cameras at every second set of lights?
let me guess you were in the right lane?
Does it matter? He was doing the speed limit. You can't overtake quicker than the speed limit. It's the law officer :teach:
HEKYEH

Also, keeping to the left is only required when the speed limit is above 80km/hr. Anything less than that and you are entitled to be in either lane.
My pet hate is on the freeway when there are roadworks and the speed limit drops from 100 down to 60, sometimes even 40, and I have fukkwits sitting up my ass when I am doing the speed limit. Or they simply fly past me doing 100 in a 40 zone...
Seems to be a lot of people out there that can't read numbers very well..........

LOL. I normally go a bit quicker than the indicated limit but as soon as some dickhead thinks it's OK to be 20cm away from my bumper, it's down to the exact limit and stay there. As soon as they get the hint and open up some space, I'll increase my speed to normal but otherwise, I may even touch the brake pedal repeatedly so they get the hint... I hope no psycho road rager shoots me one day :driving:

So is keeping left unless overtaking, also it's common courtesy, something that alot of fellow drivers lack.:teach:
If someone wants to go faster, move to the left and let them go. No point pissing them of and "potentially" getting in a fight or exposing your kids to the trash mentioned above@

Correct, just because you are doing the speed limit is no reason to sit in the right lane. If you are not overtaking, move over, even if it's a 60km/h zone.

I do the same thing (and slower if I'm particularly annoyed on a given day). I seriously don't understand why people would tailgate
Sometimes I wish I had an old VN or similar, put big brakes on it, then see how intimidating tailgaters think they are when I stamp on the anchors and they're wearing a bootlid for a hat
EDIT: In VIC keep left only applies in 80+ zones or when signed. Otherwise you're only encouraged to keep left when practical.

I see some stupid selfish and dangerous rubbish on the road sometimes and it all comes down to whos being a selfish little child about something. All people need to do is to stop worrying about what everyone else is doing and just focus on their own driving. When it comes to tailgating though, all you can do is ignore them, let them vent , and if they do get confronting simply apologise.

Not quite - you must 'Keep as far left as practicable' on a single lane road and when the posted speed limit is over 80Kph (ie 90, 100, 110) on any multi-lane road, the rule is to use the left-most lane, unless overtaking / turning. Also, one must keep left (travel in left lane) on any multi-lane road with a 'Keep left unless overtaking' sign posted.
As for the road-rage - it is becoming far too common and people need to relax, take deep breaths and think of calm, blue oceans....:werd:

I feel sorry for you mate, I live in Brissy too and it's becoming increasingly common for some halfwit to "serve their own justice" and "teach them a lesson" by performing acts more dangerous than those apparently inflicted upon them by said person.
I do get frustrated when someone wants to stick to 10km/h below the limit but at the end of the day I'd rather wait for my opportunity and pass when able to.
My pet hate though, is someone sitting in the right hand lane on the highway when I'm trying to pass.... no amount of flashing of lights and horn sounds seems to make them get the point!

They are doing it on purpose usually, some sort of self righteous feeling of keeping people within the limit I find, best to overtake where theres a slip lane hahaha, not the best thing but its certainly alot safer than getting angry about it. What can I say to critics, some people might think its crazy, but its better than sitting behind them letting rip if you are feeling that way inclined and dont have the urge to back off and wait seemingly forever.

Agreed! I try to move out of the right lane as soon as I can and sometimes wonder if that's part of the reason that even though for a lot of the last almost 35 years or so I've driven obviously modified cars (loud and low etc.) I've not been pulled over in that time(touch wood :D). It just looks like you are doing the right thing. :)

What i do if an idiot is sitting on my azz constantly is flick on the head lights which many times has fooled them into thinking Im braking suddenly ( how stupid some people are to be fooled by this). Watch with amusement in the rear view mirror how they disappear behind you as you continue to drive along normally. Had one guy brake so severely that his car pulled heavily to the left, smoke pouring from the skid and he almost hit the kerb. That taught him a lesson.....

Lower Plenty Road, the amount of people that sit in the right lane at 10 -20km under the sped limit and block everyone in is amazing. Generally driving toyota's or mitsubishi's.
Then the other day my missus is driving up a main road 50km zone and someone pulls out in front of her, completley cutting her off. So she waved her hands up in the air as if to say "what are you doing". He flipped her off and started abusing her through the window. Iv told her if someone starts following her to drive straight to the police shop.

I am in 2 minds about this...
I generally hate tailgaters after doing 12 months of good behavior (thanks to my younger days) and being s**t scared of going over the limit. If im doing say 5 or 10 k's under and im blocking you from passing then feel free to have a go cos that is deserved. But if im doing smack bang on the limit or just over and you sit up my tail i will take the time out my busy day to make sure you dont pass. That could be my kid or my dog a couple k's up the road that you dont see fast enough.
However, in saying that, i am guilty of giving people the hurry up when they creep off the line at a set of lights. I understand alot of these new smaller cars take a little bit longer to get going but seriously sometimes it just frustrates the heck out if me when people take 5 seconds to even move and then barely touch the accelerater. once i get up to the speed limit i will back off to a reasonable distance though.

While on this topic, has anyone else noticed the level of driving ability in Perth has gone down steeply. I mean for F*cks Sake, how many times do I have to sit behind some knob on the freeway doing 85/90 in the right hand lane while sitting side by side with cars in the other 2 lanes. There is no way past !!!
Or those road works on the freeway near Leach hwy. Everyone jumps out of the outside lane as it piles up, then cuts back in further up. Thats why it piles up, because of all the c*ckheads jumping in the queue. I could go on for hours.... :teach:

i hate those damned roadworks. Its bad enough being so close to those corcrete barriers with traffic cones everywhere and the lines on the road all messed up. but then people are on and of the brakes cos they are are sitting to close to each other or changing lanes without looking properly. Definitely handing out weeties box licenses over here in Perth. I had a guy on a bike come screeming up the left hand side of me on those exact roadworks when i was in the left lane a couple weeks ago. he ran out of room pretty fast cos he didnt see the concrete barriers coming up and then cut rite in front of me while the car ahead of me is breaking. hes lucky he didnt end up in my passenger seat. For all those saying the speed limit has to be over 80kmh before you have to keep left, in SA it includes 80kmh zone. Main North Road has a heap of signs warning drivers. Doesn't make an iota of difference though.

I rarely sit in the right lane as that is for people who want to go faster than the posted speed limit.
The area in which the incident took place is always full of radar traps, that's why I sit in the left lane.
Besides, should it really matter what lane I sit in?
My car is important to me but not as important as my family, especially my son. When a random sits next to you at a set of lights yelling abuse and your 3yo hears everything and starts to cry, what do you do?
Wankers like that should not be on the road.

pass the best and safest thing to do is to move over and let them go.

I quite often travel the Pacific Hwy and its such a frustrating road. On the last trip had a tool in a Prado slowly cruise past which made me slow down so I could overtake a slower car in front of me - no problem there. We were both doing about the same speed. End of the overtaking lane and he slows down (which is typical) but speed keeps going up and down. So next over taking lane I try to overtake so I can simply travel at my own speed with cruise on. He won't let me pass - comes to the end of the overtaking lane and he floors it so he can merge back in front. I'm like WTF!?! After that he turns into some kind of crazy person overtaking on a two way stretch and flying off into the distance.
As for QLD its a strange place as all the slow people seem to like sitting in the right hand lane. I never do understand that. Also most of the traffic issues on the Gateway appear to stem from people cutting up the inside and causing all traffic to gind to a halt. Same happens on the hwy outside of Bulahdehlah during long weekends etc. People simply have no idea.

I drive to work at crazy-oclock in the morning, and even with very limited cars on the road, I see heaps of cars driving in the right lane on the freeway with no one in the left lane for ages. Wa is great for the no merging properly.... fkin stupid pricks. I normally do 5ks above on the freeways, and main road where is ok. but I get Pissed when you get noobs doing 10 - 20ks under the limit.... and they even like to sit in the right lanes too. and frigin truck drivers sitting right lane blocking the traffic .....

I do a crap load of km's for work and see some real numpty's, saw this thread cause it happened to me on Wednesday.
Was in the work car driving over Queensbridge St Bridge on my way home, sitting at the lights in the right hand lane, cause I have to be to get on the freeway. Next thing you know some taxi driver is yelling and screaming at me from behind, didnt take much notice cause I hadn't done anything.
Lights turn green pulls up beside me and starts going off his nutter, I had no idea what the hell he was rambling about, so all I could do is laugh. Pulls in front of me and just over power st slams on his brakes, gets out of his car, pop's the boot and just stands there, carrying on refusing to move, meanwhile I am about to wet myself from laughing. Anyway drove off where he remained in the middle of a busy road still yelling !!!!
But heres the best one, someone I know was attacked last week by some P plater with a machete, while in his vehicle, he rings the police with machete weilding crazy dude outside the car, police ask have you been injured and he replys no, they then tell him unless he has been injured they cannot do anything, but then proceed to tell him he shouldn't be using a mobile phone without hands free !!!!

All it takes is to piss off one crackhead and have them jump out of the car at the next lights and then who knows what will happen. Why is it soo difficult to just change lane and let them pass and continue on with your day. Blocking people is fkn stupid in my opinion...

i had a road rage incident years ago, a silly older woman in a mercedes! I was driving thorugh adelaide on my way to work, turning right on a 2 lane junction to get onto west terrace, i was in left lane to turn right, she was in the right lane next to me also going right. i followed my 'dots' staying in my lane, to continue into the lane it becomes on west terrace, well she thought she could come across from her lane into mine!! so i beeped at her and accelerated to get infront and out of the way. she then decided to chase me. then she flew past me and hit the skids so hard! no idea what she was trying to achieve, she had sped through a red light camera at end of red terrace. i just swerved and went around her and carried on my merry way. just ignored her as she was completely in the wrong. and then was just getting plain stupid. when i got to work i then rang the police as she was probably the sort of lady who would ring and say that she had been road raged, or that i was a hoon driver or something, which none was true. so i rang, reported the road rage incident, that she had sped through the camera so that they knew i was telling the truth if she had rang to 'dob' me in. she then got a fine! silly stupid agro woman she was!
some people just road rage themselves, they are just angry at the world, and nothing we can do other than just try to ignore them. hard when they upset your young son, but the world is just full of nasty angry people.
i hate being tailgated,if i am going slow fair enough. but doing speed limit its not on. i also hate how slow people will not use slow vehicle turn outs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

saw some idoit in a nicely looked after modified xr6 turbo test brake a dude in a hiace yesterday. test braked then sped up. well i can tell you the speeding up would not have stopped him from cleaning up the rear of the car if the guy in the hiace hadnt fully jumped on the anchors straight away and managed to stop. youd reckon some people want to be in an accident the way they behave on the road.

I don't 'test brake' people as I think it's stupid but I'm sure that if some uninsured driver crashed into the back of me, my insurance would pay for the repairs and even retain my no claims bonus and I'd pay no excess. The insurance company chasing up the other guy for money is totally independent of my claim.
If someone is going/wants to go faster I move over let them by, then again I watch my mirrors and am aware of what's going on around me, no reason to be a hero and lane hog/brake check people.

but where do you draw the line most nights when i am driving back from camp i will envaribly have some dickhead in a mine spec vehicle sitting on my arse, i cruise along about 120 in a 100 zone and i know im speeding but its a risk i take. Just to test the mentality of these people i sped up and sat on 130 and the idiot was 1 foot of my bumper still, people like that you can not do anything about. The unfortunate part is the risks they will take to get around you, one bloke went on the wrong side of the road to overtake me and nearly had a head on with a b double the only person i would feel sorry for in that case would be the b double driver.

Have to agree with this... One of Stupidest things to ever do. You think you are smart tapping the brakes, your as bad as the tailgater as you could cause an accident as horrific as them..

Agree with all the rage about people sitting in the right hand lane, etc... But I'm getting sick of being tailgated in the left lane. I do the speed limit and sometimes a little over and sometimes end up next to one of these right hand lane spastics, then the tailgater decides I'm a more likely to speed up candidate if they tailgate me in the left lane :cussing:

If they're really close, a squirt from your wiper jets usually sprays them as well, it annoy them, and makes them back off. No brake testing, but putting on the hazard lights and gently slowing down works as well, you're not being antagonistic, just warning them.

does anyone else notice the same? I can be driving along and be 5 over the speed limit overtaking cars in the left hand lane (im in the right) and have someone tailgating me. I will pull to the left to let them past, if they want to go faster and risk the bigger fine, I have no problem with that. but as soon as they pass they drop back to 5-10 under the speed limit and block every one in? they are happy to shadow you and speed but as soon as they are the ones to set the limit they slow back down? :werd:

What i do if an idiot is sitting on my azz constantly is flick on the head lights which many times has fooled them into thinking Im braking suddenly ( how stupid some people are to be fooled by this). Watch with amusement in the rear view mirror how they disappear behind you as you continue to drive along normally. Had one guy brake so severely that his car pulled heavily to the left, smoke pouring from the skid and he almost hit the kerb. That taught him a lesson.....
I did that the other week I had a dick sitting up my ass on the M4 I was in the left lane and the other 2 lanes were empty, I turned the rear fog lights on and off because they brighter then the tail lights looks like I've hit the brakes.
I was 105 because I was playing with my cruise control learning how to use it.

What annoys me is scared drivers that sit in the right hand lane, behind a truck which is in the left lane. Too scared to pass the truck but won't move over behind it. Funny thing is, they nearly always end up moving over to the left lane some place down the road.
Happens all the time to me driving down the highway out of Hobart. There is a down hill section with a few curves in it where the trucks usually slow down a bit (in case of merging traffic where some people feel they absolutely must get in front of that truck or bus) and traffic backs up in both lanes because someone is too scared to pass it and too stupid to get behind it.
While I might (ok, usually do) have a whinge about it to myself or passengers, I don't do anything other than wait for them to grow some or get out of my way. No point making the situation worse and it doesn't help anyway.

If i get some ANOOS driving too close to my rear trying to give me the hurry up, or try to gun it in left lane to try and cut in front of me (or cause and accident) i make sure they get caught behind me or the car in the left lane for as long as possible.

I can't help but laugh at all these high horse morons trying to impose their own justice on people who want top go faster than themselves. If anyone comes up behind me I happily move over. Common courtesy is all but lost, replaced by self righteous arrogance it seems....

+1 !!
Having driven in a few European countires I can confidently say that Australian drivers are some of the most ignorant in the western world. If someone wants to drive faster than you, LET THEM PASS! It's not up to you to control THEIR speed. Focus on your own driving and KEEP LEFT!

Does it matter? He was doing the speed limit. You can't overtake quicker than the speed limit. It's the law officer :teach:
I'm allowed to drive faster than the speed limit

Son got some the other day. Driving at the speed limit 50 k area with some clown carrying on behind him. then this guy eventually telling him off, son said my girlfreind is just out of hospital I'm doing the speed limit. but he was still going off, some real fwits around.
not sure why he didn't just go bash him like he usually does.

Is there a drama here Mick??
From Sydney actually if you'd take the time to check my details. I also instuct certain people in fast driving. I enjoy driving my Calais and I enjoy driving my Forester with my family. But what I don't enjoy are idiots (and yes usually a P plater) driving like an utter tools and being a danger not only to myself but others on the road.

im going to appologise for my rant up front, sorry.
went for a drive after work today, pulled up to a set of lights in second spot from front with a bus next to me (2 lane road) and the crazy guy behind me in a white ford falcon wagon.
as normal the car infront of me took off faster then the bus and i took the oppotunity to overtake and jump in front of the bus.
at the next lights the ford pulls up next to me.
then another set of lights it opens to 3 lanes so i jump in the new left lane that ends just after the lights.
i manage to slot behind 1 other car but the ford gets stuck about 6 cars back.
i overtake another car to be clear infront of everyone. then out of no where the ford comes flying up behind me, waving his arms flashing his lights about 50cm from my rear bumper. there is another car next to me so i block him so he cant over take.
he gets closer and more aggresive so i take off to clear the road and let him past. he comes up next to me a yells at me, then jumps infront of my car and slams the brakes on.
i this point im just thinking, ill overtake him and leave him in the dust, but he blocks me. so i back way off down to 40 on a 70 road.
he stays just infront of me until my turnoff into my street. as he was infront of me, he couldnt follow so i had that covered.
now the interesting part, i got his rego and checked it on vicroads and it says his rego is cancled.
do i tell the cops or maybe vicroads or just let it go?

Like most tradies, I could fill this post with tales of bad drivers I encounter on a daily basis - but there's no point. There are retards on our roads. Fact. The key is to not let their crap driving effect your emotions - otherwise it's off to the gun store and time for a bit of natural selection.
You guys that think that it's your job to control or block bad drivers are only making matters worse. Just get out of the way and be glad you won't be involved in their upcoming news headline.
I'll sit on 120kph (110 zone) on the M1 Bne to Gold Coast. If someone flys up my arse, I DO NOT hit the brakes, I give them a second to think - then drop her to 4th and leave them in my dust. I'll then slow back to 120. In my mind it says "hey retard, I can speed too - but 120 will do". If they still want to speed, I let 'em by and cross fingers that I'll see them in a couple of k's being written a ticket.
Unlike some in this thread, I remember being a shithead doing 100mph in my LJ Torana (with 4 drum brakes) driving back from the Goldie. Luckily, I made it to "maturity" without bending my ride or hurting my friends.
On one hand we don't want the cops to be around if we want to be an enthusiast (hoon if under 21) - and on the other hand, we want the cops to be everywhere to get these idiots off our roads.
My 2cents - just go about your business of getting from a to b, and let the idiots by. Look after yourself and your family. The idiot drivers either become good drivers - or die trying.
