Just replaced my front tyres today and I ended up going with the PS3. 225/35/19 for under $300 ea at Jax. Recent wet weather in SEQ has made aquaplanning a real problem.

I've read many threads on tyres with numberous anecdotal reports that cheap tyres 'do the job'. All I can say to anyone wanting to get the most out of their car is not to skimp on tyres.

The PS3s are amazing. The truely amazing part is how performance drops off after the OEM Continentals wore down below 3mm. I acknowledge there is a market for cheap Chinese tyres but tyre performance is probably the most under rated factor fopr many buyers. The number of guys I work with that buy after market wheels and then cover them with cheap, chinese, no-name rubber. In other words they will spend $2-3k on wheels and tyres when they could have just gone with the best tyres for less.

The trade off seems to be looks vs performance.

BTW - there was a guy putting the PS3s on his Monaro - they were doing them for $240 a tyre in 17"!! Even if the cheap chinese KRAP was half that price, why would you?

As soon as the rears wear down another couple of mm I'm getting PS3 on the back too.

Good luck getting decent k's out of them. I had Michelins put on my car; great tyre, wear rate was shocking though.

What sort of car did you put 225/35x19's on, most tyres that size would be under load rated for a commodore.

New Pilot Supersports are excellent on treadwear, whilst providing Pilot Cup levels of grip.

Great tyres, i'm with the OP those that manage to find thousands for performance mods and skimp in tyres need their heads read!

Yep once I got my first good set of tyres I never looked back at cheap shit. PS3's are fantastic for handling and wet grip. Wear rate would have gotten 30,000 with sensible driving. Supersports are meant to be the be and end all now for Michelin I had trouble with Tirerack though

No 20" tyres for PS3. Infact according the the Michelin website (http://www.michelin.com.au/tyre/viewall/494) they don't make the OP's 225/35/19's either.

Good pick up :) They are 18" wheels sorry.. I will have to check the the width tonight but from memory I am almost 100% certain they are 225.

Also - does anyone know what the tyre shops use to cover the wheels (and half the panels in over-spray) ? It feels like an oily residue but it really makes the tyres shine.

correct me if Im wrong but tirerack in the US sell the PS3's although they are called michelin super sports. I got these back in may 2011 the prices are per tire, shipping was $327. tax was around 15%. total cost around $1900. thats for what I reckon is one of the best street tyres going around.

255/35ZR -20 Michelin Pilot Super Sport $332.00
285/30ZR -20 Michelin Pilot Super Sport $351.00

Yep they've got Pilot Super Sports here too (different tyre to the PS3, at least according to their website (http://www.michelin.com.au/Home/Products-Services/pattern/PassengerCar)), but only in three sizes. The two you've listed above and a 295/30 ZR20. No prices on there, but the prices you've listed above look pretty good.

Well you learn something every day thought they were the same thing!

They are marketed as ultra high perf so I dont know whether they are better or worse. They were a good tyre I decided to go all out and bought the sports cup semi slicks, cost a fortune but Im very happy with the grip.

But they will probably only be good for 10-20k not much tread, and at $2600 a set they won't be everybody's cup of tea.

Supersports are the latest tyre, recent tests proved michellins claim of near cup sport levels of grip but with excellent wear and great in the wet as well. They are a fantastic turret, but they are not load rated for use in 19" ssv wheels.

19" SS-V is 245/40 R19 94W, Michellin don't supply the Supersport in the appropriate size in Australia either!

They can be purchased in the US though.

correct 94 for sedan, i'd imagine the wagon would have a higher load requirement due to it's extra cargo area.
