Excluding maintenence, what is the most you have spent on a car, purchase price and upgrades. So other than maintenence what does it owe you?
Please state what is the car and how much it owes you.

My VY SS I picked up for $18k and spent $750 on exhaust. haha thats it
My first car which i still own is a 1976 Alfetta GT, paid $1800 for it and spent about $10k restoring it. I have never been able to bring myself to part with that car, even though it goes through more oil than petrol, left me on the side of the road at night without any lights countless times. hahaha

That's a bad question to ask. About $250k on a Mk2 Escort. About $250k on a BMW E46 M3 about $200k on an Ultima GTR and about $35k on a VY SS. And the ute makes the most power and I drive it the most.
Sh!t if I spent less on cars I would be a millionare. Now I'm just a bum with some sweet rides. And that's just the cars I have now that doesn't include all the ones in the past.

Wow, some very nice rides there. Puts me to shame.
Excluding my last couple of 55 od grand relative stockers my biggest money pit was the RX3 sedan. Paid about 7 grand for it and then threw about 20 at it. Tiny little 12a with a big J port. Oh how I wish I still had her

never actually added it up and don't rely want to but i know i have spent nearly what i paid for the car in mods over 60k, but if i was to do it again it wouldn't cost nearly as much and would end up with a better result, but that is all about learning when you are building your first modified car and i am pretty happy with the result.

I like this thread. It's interesting & a realistic insight into the real cost of our hobby/passion/addiction. I personally hate when mag's detail a cars info & the owner is too embarrassed to say how much they've spent. I've got a spreadsheet where I'm tracking the cost of everything related to my ride.
2006 VZ Crewman SS Thunder - L76 M6 - Impulse Blue
Purchase: $26k (2009)
Spent: $ 9k (headers, exhaust, suspension, tyres, maintenance/repairs)
Planned: $10k (OTR, tune, diff, brakes, ps & oil coolers, rip shift, track tyres)
Dreamin': $ 6k (race seat, harness, gauges, rims, cosmetic goodies)
I guess I'll be in the $50k club sometime in the next couple of years (cunning kick/divorce dependant).:p Check out progress on My Ride page. ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=154261

Me and my old man were having this discussion the other day..
We worked out my old vy ss ute probably cost me around the $40,000 mark.. Bought it for $30,000.
My current ute would have to owe me at least $75,000 including purchase price which was about the $48,000 mark.. And it is still going!!!
We didn't include my dirt bikes either.
Not so bad I thought but my old man was disgusted and says to me "Your 24, getting married and spent what could have been a decent house deposit on cars"
To which I replied.. " Yeah but you have got to admit I have owned some pretty awesome shit"
He just shook his head..
Would I do it all again.. HELL YEAH!!

Car: 03 VY Clubsport
Purchase price: $16.5k
Upgrades: Not much, just a catback at $1200 so far and about $500 in stereo gear.
Plans: Intake/headers/cats/tune/wheels/box cooler/diff gears. Probably $5-6k in spending. If I get REALLY into it I'll blow it later on. Guess my satisfaction comes pretty cheap compared to some of you guys haha.

I've lost a lot of money on cars over the years after doing mods and not making any of it back come selling time, but it adds to the personal value and most of us wouldn't have it any other way...
Most I've spent on discretionary spending was my last car, a VT SS... probably about $11k over three years on top of the $21k purchase price in '06. Price wise, the cost on mods of my four previous cars in comparison was pretty tame...
Had the current ute for just over two years now and have only just gone crazy on it since June - about $6.5k in the space of about two months... and looking at up to another $7k of engine work in January.
It always helps when you have more of a disposable income! ;)

05 Maloo R8 again, $65K, about 25K in mods.
LE GTO red/white brought for 86k, 20G mods, sold for 65.
08 Maloo brought hevily modded for i think about 62k, spent about another 20 on it making it GO better, sold for 66k.

Brought is the past tense of "bring". "Bought is the past tense of "buy" .

=[]... Shit my dad is right. You guys have scared me into buying a house before a car LOL...
But his Caprice tempts me so much :driving:
Most likely a wise decision, even in these uncertain times with doom and gloom merchants predicting continuing falls in house prices. Cars just eat money but can be heaps of fun. Maybe buy a house and just take your dad's Caprice for the odd :driving:.......... or three. :D

If you are going to point-out Nick's totally inexcusable slackness ;) you need to include:
" You're over reacting Seldo ... but now that you have brought the error to everyone's attention there shouldn't be too many more mistakes!"
 ... I knew you'd find them all Seldo.

Cars i spent way too much on but probably only regret selling.
VH GRP 3 with Genuine 9000k's Broguht for $15,000, spent 15 or so, sold for $40,000..now in Museum.
VK GRPA/3 with Genuine 17,000k Brought for $30, 000 spent about another 50k, sold for 80K, heard it sold after that for 227k(should've kept this one)
2003 CV8, Brought for $60k, spent about 30K sold it for 65K (ouch)
WRX STI 04, Brought for 65K, spent about 20-30k Sold for 65K.. worth ever cent... most funnest car i've owned.
05 Maloo R8 again, $65K, about 25K in mods.
LE GTO red/white brought for 86k, 20G mods, sold for 65.
08 Maloo brought hevily modded for i think about 62k, spent about another 20 on it making it GO better, sold for 66k.
010 Maloo, brought for 65k, spent about 20k... this will be the last HOLDEN/HSV i buy & waste money on.
Next car will be a ferrari.
oh... & all it cost me was my best friend.... i am now divorced because i neglected her wants & desires. THE END
Mmmm... Ferrari. Just be careful on which one you buy, I'm no expert but depending on the model, a major service at 15,000 miles (or 5 years) may require an engine removal to replace cambelts, tensioners, seals, water pumps, etc. A little birdie told me a major service for a 360 is in the $10-$15k mark and it doesn't require an engine removal! I imagine clutches don't last long in these things 10,000k - 15,000k? I shudder to think how much repairs could cost if you actually break something on one of these things.
Do lots of research and choose wisely, the money you say you've wasted on Holdens/HSV could be a drop in the ocean compared to what you could waste on one of Enzo's finest. Bloody nice car's though!

Back when my old man had a 318i BMW a new set of blades was $120 bucks so for a ferrari id say thats cheap in comparison......Autoclassic BMW for you.

I apologise, it was EACH and after a bit of arguement, an "error" was found and he was given a free dinner for the inconvenience.

Agree! Was talking to a well known detailer whose dad has a Ferrari convertible. Nowhere near new but very low kms (under 20,000 from memory) and at the time (about 2 years ago) he'd just had a service done which (from memory) was approx $8k.

My boss now has 2 of them (california and a new 458 spider if i remember right) even tho drives them approx 2k's to work and back everyday when he's here in aus he actually takes them to track days well he has taken the california a few times to barbagello's. I am thinking when I get back to work I might ask what his service cost's for one of them is lol.
