hi All,
My car (VX11) got written off on the weekend, 100% the other
drivers fault who has been charged. I don't know if I should
get a VZ or for a bit more a VE. I have about $14k to spend.
Is ESP a good system or just for people who can't drive well ?
I will get a V6 and do up the suspension wheels etc as I can afford it.
Is it better to get a Berlina or one of the special releases ?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
cheers Paul

If you only have that sort of money i would get a better model VZ over a lesser model VE. I'd try for something like a VZ calais but i have no idea what sort of money they are going for lately.

For those $$ grab a good late model low km VZ Calais . Has ESP as well i'm pretty sure...Still one of my favorite looking cars inside and out , better than any $14k VE Omega.

Be careful of alloytec's blowing there head gaskets, only seen it happen in VZ's though

For that sort of money you could get a low km VY Berlina or Calais LS1.
Is there any reason you want a V6?

Earlier this year I couldn't sell my one owner VY Ls1 Berlina with 106,000km for $10k!

Re the V6 I was concerned about the problems people are having with oil consumption in V8's.
I have found V8's for less than 14K and even Calais VE's are around that mark according to Glasses values.
I can't get anything done till after Xmas/new year as everything is waiting for the police to charge the guy.
cheers.

I've got a VY LS1 berlina that still pulls like a train.
Its done 167000km in total and of that I have done 75000 and it has hardly used any oil between services (10,000km). Holden pretty much fixed the oil issue that the earlier LS1 motors were having by the VY series.

Hi
I reckon a WK Grange would suit you for $15,000!

I would want at least a 6.0. Reason : tune, intake and exhuast you would be getting anywhere between 260 - 280 at the rears. You would have to cam a 5.7 to get that kind of power.

My VY 2 ss has 180,000km and never uses any oil! I think Holden sorted that issues with the early models.

if hes considering a V6 obviously pissing contest of power levels is not of high priority.
you get lemons everywhere mate, some vt good some not so good. same for vx and vy. just check the cars service records and find an honest example.

Thanks everyone, looks like I will get either a VZ or VE Calais,
I will consider a V8 as well for a bit more, I just have to wait
till a clean one comes along.
cheers Paul.

Good luck mate, it might be a long process finding the right one but will be worth it in the end...given the money your going to spend, have you considered a XR6 Turbo. I sold my BA2 XR6 Turbo, 6 speed with 330rwkw for $15k with only 70,000kms before getting my R8. Strangely engough I do miss the power delivery of that car.

hi All
I kind of thought about a Ford yet they do not seem to keep their
value as well as Holdens, also I don't know anything about them.
I can find 2005 VZ and it seems to get down to how many K's have they done,
ie a car that has done 130 k is $2000 more than one that has done 230k.
I have thought about putting a Holmart 210 kw and six speed
into a VZ or very high K VE as they go for $5500
I don't know how much it will cost to change over as I don't have
the resources to do it my self.
It seems to be a good time to purchase as people want money.
Should I look for a very low K model or go by price alone ?
Any inputs are very welcome, cheers Paul

That's a good thing for someone in the used market, I don't think a car in your budget has a lot more depreciating to do.

Another option if you have cash is try the auctions, I have bought three cars from them all for my kids, depending on the car you can save $10,000 compared to the car yards.
I use Pickles in Brisbane, but have a look at the link, (thats for Melb) its best to go to a fews auctions before you buy to get a feel of what they are going for dollar wise, but dont get into a bidding war stick to your budget.
Good luck.

Tell me about it. I sold my VY SS with leather for under $9000 earlier in the year. Just no interest at all. Needed some $$$ after the wife was unfairly dismissed. Jeez fwa are slow.

I bought my previous car at Pickles, I paid a very low price for it
and put aside $3000 for repairs which it needed.
I didn't loose any money yet the car was off the road for 2 months
while waiting for parts etc.
I think Pickles is a good place to get rid of a car that is mechanically
challenged with the cheap prices.
I had a look at Pickles and the prices were not so cheap.
cheers.
