Extractors

Hi guys,

I have extractors on my VE series II SS ute, not sure what they are, but they're blue... anyone know what make they are? will post a picture when I get a chance.

Do extractors void warranty? If so, warranty to what extent? The entire engine?

2010 series II as far as I know it has another 2 years - first owner works for Holden, never had an issues. I'm just curious as to what's on my ute and if I should change anything

Just had a proper look, they are pacemakers. More interested in how they affect warranty and why? They were on the ute when I bought it, but if it were up to me, I wouldn't have added anything they may compromise warranty.

General consensus is that a cat back exhaust is usually fine with most dealers - but once you add on headers & hi flow cats you enter unwarranted territory for engine & driveline components. If you plan on having the car serviced at a particular Holden dealer, then speak to the service supervisor & see what their policy is.

This question gets asked all the time on here and I've copied my answer verbatim from another post I did a while ago.

The following is from Holden's own website (as posted on here already a few times):

"Only Genuine Holden Parts and Accessories and HSVi Enhancements are comprehensively tested by Holden Engineers.

Given this, Holden does not recommend modifying your vehicle from its as built nature using non-Holden approved parts and accessories. Your vehicles integrity, performance and safety may be impaired by modifications using non-Holden approved components. Should you proceed with modifications, your New Vehicle Warranty will not be voided. However, should a problem occur which is attributed to the modifications made, any repairs will not be covered by Holden's New Vehicle Warranty."


As was mentioned by others, it depends primarily on the relationship you have with your dealer and also their attitude in general to mods. I know my dealer for example was at one point trialling various exhausts for VE, though I never heard any results or conclusions. Even though I trust Chev more than any dealer to service my car I've always had my cars dealer serviced while in warranty just to keep in their good books should I ever need to make a big driveline claim given my mods. That said, I've had 5 new Commodore V8s since 2003 (SV8, catback only) through to my SSV ute with cam and full bolt ons and from memory the biggest warranty claims I've had involved the driver's seat base on both VEs - probably a max of $100 parts and labour each. My ute is out of warranty in March next year, so only Chev will service it from then on.

Bottom line if worst comes to worst they can only knock you back on warranty if in their opinion they consider that the failure is due to a modification you have had done, subject of course to you challenging it as far as you feel able. That of course means that potentially anything to do with the driveline is out if you add power eg. CAI, exhaust, extractors, tune etc, though it could be argued if you only did one or two of those that the car should be able to cope.

Thanks mate... Doesn't seem to stop people modifying their cars oddly? Just had 15,000km service before I bought it with no dramas. Ute has no problematic history that I'm aware of, have receipts for service history.

People make modifications because they want more power and are willing to accept the potential risk that has in compromising their warranty. Warranty only lasts for 3 years anyway.

Extractors would give you more power than stock, therefore they may potentially have an effect on the driveline.

Problem with warranty is the dealer will not have a say if it's a decent warranty claim, the District Service Manager will make the call and having just gone through all this for a leather seat cover, they are a fairly high up employee who's decision is very hard to over rule!

I have worked as a Ford service manager and to the best of my knowledge for any damage to be attributed to aftermarket parts fitted, the onus is on the manufacturer to prove that the non-genuine part is the root cause of the fault. I am aware of more than one early model xr6t that blew it's bottom end to pieces on boost modified vehicles that still had to be covered after investigations found premature conrod bolt failure. Just my 2 cents!

Full 2.5 inch Xforce exhaust

^ try picking up a set of stock v8 rear mufflers and put them on that will shut it up.

i think you will fi nd that its the xforce catback giving u the snap crackle and pop, if you can afford the extra coin i wld recomend one of the hm bimodal catbacks with their control module that you can set the valves to open and close at what ever rpm you like, i have the hm bimodal system from APS with the hsv edi contol module and i couldnt be any happier with it

it will sort of be the same thing but u will still be stuck with the snap crackel pop, and from when one of the guys at chevs had 1 on their car it sounded shit when it was closed
