Until recently Castrol recommended Castrol Edge Sport for vehicles fitted with DPFs. This changed recently when they modified the product with so called Titanium technology. This means Castrol no longer has any product in retail pack/size for diesels fitted with DPF aftertreatment. Most of you will realise that DPFs require lower levels of certain additives and inclusions so as not to pollute the filter and degrade its performance, an expensive outcome!

So I can save you all a bit of time, here's the status on this issue as at 30Dec2011:

- Castrol
Magnatec Professional C3 0W40 available in 20L drums and higher. Not available retail but can be ordered in by your favourite car parts store, or direct from distributors such as Reliance or Simpson (prices start at $235 for 20L before negotiating - post your prices and places if you get better). The only other product suitable is the VW approved oil available from VW dealers. For the benefit of doubt Magnatec Diesel is NOT suitable. All Edge products with Titanium technology are NOT suitable. All GTX products are NOT suitable.

- Nulon
The full synthetic high performance 0W40 is approved for use with DPF.

- Mobil
No information is available specifically stating that Mobil 1 0W40 is approved with DPFs, and the tech assist people seem to be on holidays. I have been advised this product is being used widely by VW owners, but as with Edge this could be a lesson learnt of ignorance. I will update this thread when I get positive feedback.

- Holden
The genuine OEM oil is still a viable alternative available in cans from most Holden parts distributors, if they choose to stock it.

Mainlube 175 Synthetic Race Oils SAE 0w40 & 10w60 are good for diesel engines with DPF.

I already have the Ow40 in the wifes Cruze TDI

If you want to earn brownie points, how about developing and selling a PuraDyn bypass filter kit to bolt on directly to the Captiva/Cruze RA420 engines. I will be a first buyer! PM me if you need a car to look at (I am at Ryde).

what about penrite? they make an enviro-plus range for the DPF vehicles, from memory it retails at about $70 per 5L bottle.

PFT 8 will fit any passenger car etc, the clever part is who you get to fit it, that's where the expertise comes in. (the Adventra will have one and maybe even the GMC.

Sonny would make a good job of that.

No kit, no business. I could fit it myself easily enough but I want convenience these days... I am always amazed at the way Australia works - in the USA the distributors of many parts make kits for the most popular models. No stuffing around, follow the instructions. here, it's well, oh the market hasn't taken these things up I wonder why?????

Did my apprentiship at Mercedes in light comercial, when they went PF 4-5 years ago we were supplied from Statewide oils a 0w40 in 205l drums not bulk like the the normal 0w40 and it wasn't available at the time from retailers, I guess because PF was new at the time to australia, should be available now

- Amsoil
The CJ4 diesel oil is a match for DPF and is readily available including from resellers on eBay. Amsoil was the company that first brought synthetic oil to the reciprocating engine world in 1972.

- Mobil update
The only DPF compatible product is Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 which rules it out for Captiva/Cruze which require 40W.

By the way, if you have a Captiva I highly recommend changing the rear diff and power transfer unit oil (75W90 trans oil). Mine has done 40,000km and it was well worth changing based on metal in the oil, particularly the rear diff. Will be changing it every 10,000 from now on!

By the way, all PuraDyn Filters come in a universal kit to fit anything.

Useful upgrade to the kit would be vehicle manufactures adding an external oil return bung to the sump. (some are adding this now)

They are quite a tidy kit.

Maybe it would look fully sick with the filter hanging down at the back next to a fake drop tank. Torana style....

Yeah the drop tank can cover the spare. Run one pipe to the same side as the other and fit a canon muffler, filter hanging other side. Bling me baby!!!! Maybe I should be running the technical services at mainlube/puradyn???
