just as the title states, does anyone know what the specifics are between the engine internal differences from an 02 cv8 ls1 to 04 vy sII clubby 285?

I don't think there are any. Later Monaros (VZ) got a better cam.

No internal differences - Just the HSV enhancements like the extractors, exhaust, airbox, and tune to get them up to the 285 kW. They did not have any better cam, etc I dont think.

Thats correct. Cam same as standard vy ls1. The power gain is in the exhaust and tune,you can pick a 285 (if you have heard a lot of them) over a 250-260 from the exhaust sound/idle. They sound a bit deeper and aggressive than a 250-260.

Nothing to do with performance but they did upgrade the pistons in June '03 to try and overcome the piston noise issues some cars had, there was some revision to the pistons and gudgeon pins. My 2001 VX SS had the upgrade around July '03. There was an early piston upgrade in 2002 but that was different to the June '03 revision.
