Hi,
I have been hearing that the new commodore may receive the 5.5 OHV Gen V direct injection engine, with variable timing 440+hp,with very good MPG,this engine will be fitted to corvette,s and comaro,s.
Also that the new car will be assembled overseas,Asia has been mentioned,is this just speculation.
The new engine looks like a possiblity, but i,m hoping assembly of the new car overseas is incorrect.

Would be good if Holden put that motor in! away from pushrods and lifters at last but specs are still really unknown
But I reckon if anything will be HSV?

Is that really such a good thing? I mean, the current pushrod system has proven very cheap to build, very reliable, very easy to modify, very small physical engine height and capable for very good power. Although this new system is technically much better, im not sure yet that it will actually be "better".

Hi,
I have been hearing ...
Where exactly have you been hearing this from? I have been hearing that they've been testing an LSA around Lang Lang...

It's still a pushrod engine, Wheels and Motor have both done a run down on it as it is supposed to be in the upcoming Corvette.

EXACTLY,
its been talk around the traps, thats why there,s a question mark in heading, doesn,t mean its happening.
So i thought i,d ask the question and see if anyone else had heard of anything,or do you feel confident that nothing like this could happen.

The LSA running around Lang Lang is for the upcoming Anniversary HSV only . . . and it only Heat Soak testing and OTR stuff for final compliance and validation by GM
The Gen 5 is for october 2013 debut with the upgraded V6 as well . . . plus Holden Engineers are in mad rush against the clock to have a TD ready for VF release too

Yeah? A TD Sportwagon would suit me nicely in a few years time :)

Nice, lets hope it happens as the XR6Turbo needs competition.

I would have thought W427 intake would have been sufficient! Already validated no?

Never heard of anything about VF being built in Asia. VF will be built in Adelaide i think...after the VF is anyones guess. Whatever the changes the VF has, it would want to be good, its needs a revamp EVRYWHERE to keep customers updating and new customers getting on board.
5.5 ltr direct injection V8 would be great, but will it only be for HSV variants?

With Australians turning their noses up at large cars the VF is going to have to be something special to get them back. (Oct 2013 may be too little too late)
At the very least it will need:
Weight loss of about 70Kg's
A complete interior overhaul with better quality materials
Fuel economy of the 3.0l at around 8.2l/100km and 8.8l/100km for the 3.6. (Look at the new 2.0l turbo as an option as well)
A quite extensive exterior redesign. (As much as they can do considering doors will be the same)
Gen V V8
5 Year warranty as standard.
Competitive pricing. (eg: SV6 for aprox $36k drive away)
Fixed price servicing (to keep up with the opposition)
One of my pet hates is dealing with salesmen, so it would be good for people who know EXACTLY what they want that they have an option to purchase online directly from manufacturers website at a discounted price. (Vauxhall in the UK already do this)

It does? Pretty sure the VE needs the competition, not the other way around.

sorry what i mean is in the power stakes as most on here know the XR6T in standard form is bit of a weapon out of the box.

I disagree. The FG XR6T have a smaller turbo so they spool up much quicker.
Dont get me wrong, im a holden boy all the way but after seeing my mates dead stock XR6T run a 12.8 on street tyres and a 12.5 on MT's, i think they deserve a bit of praise.

Hi,
i,m talking about a street car,
These polished turds take over a 8th of a mile to start working,on the street that is useless, the next lights are much closer.
I,ve also seen them on the 8th mile and a standard SS ute blew it to the weeds,i was dissapointed as i,m always hearing how brilliant they are,or arn,t.
Anyways,
lets talk more about the new chev, yee fro--en haa, can,t wait to see the next generation.

Lots of things will change in the next few years.
I've "heard" about this 5.5L engine, but don't know much about it.....even on U.S. forums, not much is spoken about it.
But "smaller engines"?....& more "fuel efficient",....that's the way things seem to be going these days, & where power is required it's still smaller capacity, with either a blower or a turbo....BMW & Mercedes have both gone down this road.
So, I reckon we'll see this engine....in both Holden & HSV variants.
Cheers, Pickles.
