Hi all
After recently having a Kaaz diff centre fail on me I am wondering if there is anyone who has had an eaton truetrac and any dramas they might have had.
Thanks daniel

The only problem with my Eaton unit is that it leaves 2 black marks on the road at all times when required. :)

I ran 550 rwhp for 20000km not a problem no iv put 1000rwhp and still all good. Depends on what brand you get to as there are a few different ones out there the Harrop ones are ment to be the best

Have one in my ute, love it. How every LSD should be - locked when you want it locked, open wheeler for putting around.
Only difference between the Eaton and the Harrop is the casing - I'm pretty sure the Eaton is cast and Harrop is billet; happy to be corrected though. You'll break something else before you break the casing though

I have the eaton and love it. One of the best mods I have done to my car!! I don't know how Kaaz is still in business with these available.
The Harrop is rated to 500rwkw and the eaton to 500rwhp. I think the Harrop as Toast said is billet but also machined to finer tolerances etc. But you pay the premium for it. Almost double I think the last time I checked. IIRC SirNemesis on here is running the eaton with more than the rated power without a problem.

The one on VPW is the Eaton.
Harrop's you can get from them or a few other places around the traps, VCM etc.
Eaton's are ~$600, Harrop's ~$1500.

Hi all
I am thinking of getting the eaton one as it is half the price of the harrop one and I have around 400rwhp and dont think that is going to go up any time soon.
Thanks daniel
I have just over 500rwhp (and a heap of torque) on my HTV1900 blown Monaro and also have the Eaton TrueTrac coupled with the Harrop sports diff cover. Traction is excellent and it doesnt make any noise and so far has handled the power without a drama. Great modification and if I did it all over again I would definitely install the eaton again.

When I destroyed my KAAZ last year, I replaced it with an Eaton Truetrac. It cost me $1900 supplied and fitted to the houseing, along with new 4.11:1 gearing and end caps, bearings, etc. That was thru Aussie Diffs on the Gold Coast (Currumbin)
I am making around 370rwhp. Good value and it has been a great diff so far. No noise. It drives like an open centre, but under load, it hooks locks up and fries both tyres. I would recommend it any day.

Thanks for the reply's
OMR346 how do you find 4.11.1 with an auto I am thinking of going 4.11s this time as the 3.9s got a little damage with the Kaaz.
Thanks Daniel

They are great. Maybe a bit short if you do lots of highway driving though. It sits at around 2500rpm @ 100km. That doesn't bother me though as I don't do much highway.
It is great around town. Take off has improved greatly, and I can stand on it at 70-80 km/h now and traction control goes crazy at me. It also chirps 2nd quite a lot and often 3rd as well. That is with 245/35/19"s.
With the KAAZ, I had 3.73:1 gearing.

Call Aussie Diffs at Currumbin on the Gold Coast. They do great work, and have a great reputation.
I paid $1900 for Truetrac and 4.11:1 gearing supplied and fitted (to the housing I dropped off to them), including bearings, end caps, etc.
That was the best price i got when I shopped around, and that was including my price to ship them from the US and have someone fit it. It worked out cheaper for me to get it all thru them.

Hi OMR346 do you know if the 4.11.1 gears are the pintara ones of something else as I have been told that there are no 4.11.1's for our diff. Thanks for the info I will give them a call.
Thanks Daniel

No they are not Pintara gearing. I made sure of that when i got it done. There has been 4.11:1 gearing for our M80 diff's for a while now.

It's worth noting if you have an early girl, Harrop is your only option for a direct fit. $1300 or so @trade.

Hey guys - sorry for the slight thread dig.
My diff is making a loud howling noise at low speed, so looks like it's time for an upgrade.
Going by the opinions in this thread, looks like the Eaton diff works really well.
Any opinions on how they will handle a few launches at the drags? Car is manual and makes somewhere around 490rwhp.
Cheers, Mick.

Will be fine. They're rated for 500rwhp so shouldn't be an issue. Alternatively you could go the Harrop which is rated at 500rwkw.

They wouldn't be able to tell unless they did some metallurgy

Has anyone used this supplier and is the price competitive?

When I had my eaton fitted the builder replaced all the bolts with decent ones and locktighted them cause he reckoned they were a weak point...
What do harrop do to add the strength?
Evman
26-06-2013, 08:12 PM
Harrop do more work on hardening the steel so they have a higher failure point. There's essentially no difference other than that - same appearance, same design, same operation, etc.

Thanks for your comments guys.
I will ring a few places in SA for a quote on supply and install.
Thanks to the guys at Harrop for the fast responses to my questions too, great customer service.

Did Harrop re work the TrueTrac center so that the stub axles don't flop around like a **** in a sock like the Eaton units?
