Depends what you want to do? Auto will always be better for drag and softer on your driveline, manual if you like smashing gears yourself, side stepping 2nd at big revs and painting lines always brings a smile to my face

A full m6 conversion for a vy ive seen seem to go for around $2400 but the risk of buying a 2nd hand box worries me a little then add a decent clutch maybe up for some dollars vs get the A4 rebuild and not cost a fortune. But i like the idea of a manual but still not convinced.May need to drive a m6 Ls1 to help make up my mind.

If you still running standard diff gears you'll want to change those too other wise it'll feel slower with the manual than it was with the auto.

more $$$ and food for thought

Says he has 3.9 gears in the first post, You would have to buy a wrecked car i think to make it viable a mate of mine picked up a wrecked vy ss man from auctions the other day for about 3k from memory

Go m6! A mate just did it to his calais international - only cost 2k for the full conversion with a new ls7 clutch. Ebay!

Mate, I recently got my monaro converted from M6 to A4 as I do mostly city driving and was getting too old and lazy to change gears myself!

Anyway, I'm in Brissy and if you do decide on purchasing a complete manual conversion including ripshift, box, loom, clutch (seriously, everything!) let me know

cheers, adam

got the same set up, auto all the way, takes more punishment IMO.

Nice stally makes it run nicely.

I am over the manual shifting rubbish.......Strong cars run autos :)

if ur engine makes abit of horsepower id go auto just pulled 6 speed manual out of vy ss and replced it with a rebuilt t400 with 5000 dominator for a good price was going to keep manual in but would have cost abit to build it tough enough and then proberly more money on the driveline

I found that it was actually cheaper for me to convert to manual than get a rebuilt auto+stall+trans cooler.
I was in the same boat and couldn't decide whether to go stalled and built auto or 6spd conversion.

Personally I think manual is better if you like to have some fun with corners and auto is better if you like to drag.

If your a drag queen, go the auto. If you like to drive, go the manual.

:)

i just did a manual conversion on my calais and i highly recommend it. its a different car and heaps more fun to drive.

a built auto with a stall is going to chew through juice, especially if you decide to cam it down the track. go manual and you wont look back.

lol, there is, a Hollinger. $$$$$

OP... 6sp great for street, sounds good as it climbes through the gears, awful in heavy traffic, shuddering clutches. great for circuit racing.

Built auto for drags & traffic queues
