Hi, as the title suggests, a mate of mine changed clutches on the weekend in his MX5, and now, when accelerating hard in 1st and 2nd gear there is a vibration.
From 3rd gear onwards, it is fine.

What could be causing this?

Check everything is tight, is it a 1 or 2 piece tailshaft?

I believe its a 1 piece symmetrical drive shaft..

We think it might now be the exhaust. Will look more this weekend.

Thanks.

I once had a custom pressure plate made that turned out to be badly out of balance this is probably a last thing to check though.
After a weeks vibration many of the gearbox bolts did not take much undoing.

I got the pressure plate balanced took to the pp supplier and got a full credit on it

Any evidence of clutch slip? Rise in RPM without concurrent rise in vehicle speed? Smell?

Centre bearing?

where is the vibration...thru the shifter..or thru the floor?

thru the shifter says the flywheel/pressure plate combo is out of balance
thru the floor says the tailshaft has not been put back in its original spot (they are sensitive to this)
did he mark the tailshaft and pinion flange so they got matched up again?

also what model MX5? first 1.6 or later?
