View Full Version : Machine stock flywheel?

Does anyone no if you can machine the stock flywheel on a VE SS 2008 or if they must be changed?
i was going to buy a ls7 clutch from holmart and they said the stock flywheel can be reused?

And I'm pretty sure you have to use the LS7 flywheel anyway as the clutch doesn't fit the stock flywheel. This was for LS1's so not sure for the VE's though.

On LS1`s you were supposed to change the flywheel when doing a clutch as the flywheel was non machinable. Not sure but VE would be the same at a educated guess.

can anyone shed some light on the subject maybe if someone has changed the clutch and re used the original flywheel.
Holmart have said it will be fine but i just want to make sure.

Afaik the flywheels get a banana bend in them so machining them lessens then life of them.

For the price of them just throw a new one in

oh yea if i can find a kit cheap enough with one i will.
all i have found at the moment is the ls7 one but without the flywheel for $425

I haven't looked myself but I believe a fidanza one from the states can be picked up for a good price

As far as I've ever known you need the specific LS7 flywheel to suit.

You can't reuse an LSx flywheel. Well technically you can, but I wouldn't as they are designed to wear with the rest of the clutch.

ok great thanks guys, ill have to get onto capa and find out how much for a full kit with the fly.
