VE SS Drift Ute.

Hey guys, Thought I'd let you all know that we are running a VE SS Ute in the 2012 Drift season. If you like the idea of a tyre shredding screaming V8 sliding completely sideways pushing all the usual jap sliders to the pits, then follow the link to watch us prepare this Aussie icon to take on the enemy.

The driver Nick Coulson AKA (DriftKid) is only 18 years old & has been mixing it up with the pro guys for only a year & has already proven he can take it to the best Australia has to offer.

Please show your support for a young guy doing something different in a sport that needs more diversity. Drifting is a highly skilled sport that has been in the shadows for too long. Hopefully with this Holden Commodore we can bring a fresh new fan base to support a great sport.

Wow got some serious speed down that straight. We have one in Adelaide that competed in it's first comp (also first outing) just this weekend gone. Doesn't sound as free revving as yours. It sounded very doughy down low. But it was the first outing for it so I'm sure there are more tweaks to be done. What mods are done to yours?

Thanks mate, that was in the pissing rain & it seemed to have a great amount of grip. We got 5 dry laps & it was just amazing how it sat in the drift. 1 more practice day & then it's comp time. Engine mods are simple cam/valve springs & a great tune from Hi-Torque Performance. Plus a Few other things you normally do to hi revving LS. The suspension is a whole different story. Fulcrum Suspension have done an amazing job making it low & tight. Have a look on their Facebook page to follow the build from their performance arm, Fulcrum Performance.
The other VE you are talking about is Hayden's & is doing great. 4th in it's 1 st comp is great work. We will probably end up racing them when we do a few SA rounds later in the year. To keep up with the whole series check http://www.racelineevents.com/raceline/

Well we had our 1st Competition on the weekend at Queensland Raceway for the Repco Pro Drift Championship. The DriftKid Qualified 5th out of 24 entrants & made it all the way to the top 8 where he was knocked out finishing 7th. It was amazing to see this VE SS being thrown around like a rag roll.
After a little more developement & some more seat time for Nick, we think this beast will dominate the Australian Drift Scene.

Thanks Nick, Yes we will be doing round 2 & 3 of ADGP. Hopefully have the car & driver in top form by then. We have a small comp on this Friday Night at Queensland Raceway for any Qld'rs wanting to come watch the beast in action. Starts at 6pm & is $15 enrty to watch a very exciting new format of Drift.

Great night at QR for round 1 of the Short Track Series. Nick got 2nd place in the VE SS Drift Ute. It was awesome to see this big V8 getting thrown around like a nibble little Gazzel. Looks like small tracks arnt going to be an issue with the VE.

Surprisingly not a great deal. A wheel that is totaled, a bent lower control arm & a little bit of Pride :)
He very rarley Bins it & you only have 2 options when throwing 1500kg sideways. The wall or the other car. If he chose to hit the other car it would have done more damage to both cars.

Thanks mate, i wish it was me driving. My 18 Year Old sure can steer. I saw them yesterday on you tube( Stole them & put on our DriftKid Page ) lol. Great footage mate :) It was a great weekend in melbourne, Qualified 4th on Saturday & finished 4th for the event. The rain really put the brakes on us. We were the only car in the top 4 on Federal tyres. The others were on the Achilles 123s which is really a semi-slick with 220 stamped on the side. We have to stick to a 200 or above for the comp rules :( All in all a great weekend though. What did you think of the event itself? The crowd seemed to love the VE.

I was there pit crewing for a mate of mine. Anthony Cece in the Achilles Jaustech Cefiro. It was an untested car that we built in 5 weeks and unfortunately came away with a bit of damage like most cars did. I was able to get into the spotters area and was at the top where the judges were taking the video. It was a good event but the track looked a bit tight to have any proper close racing unlike last year when we were there. He ran the 123s tyres and loves them, you are right they are a semi-slick.

Your son had some good runs with Hayden in his ute. Looked great having both utes running side by side around the track.
You coming to Adelaide for the ADGP round here? We will be there.

It was the 1st time we have been to Victoria & the track, we thought it was amazing. Wast too sure how the ute would like it, but as you can see in the videos he was killing it. The rain really put the brakes on our top 4 performance. The guys on the semi-slick just had it all over us. Not a bad effort though for the DriftKid & the ute. Really happy with 4th over all & as the anouncers said it was a very small margin that Danny took 3rd place. We are coming to Adelaide in September for round 3. With the 4th place on the weekend it put us in 13th overall for the series & if we can continue our run there we will prb end up in the top 5 or so. Then the decision to take the team to perth :(

Hey Guys, thought i would throw some new photo's up of the VE SS Drift Ute. We just did a 8 point roll cage as well as stripping her bare. Just did our Round 4 on the weekend at Stanthorpe. Qualified 3rd & finished 5th. The Ute & the DriftKid are slowly starting to get it together. Since the first competition, we have not Qualified outside the top 5.

Our next big event is WTAC at Eastern Creek in Sydney on the 10th & 11th of August where we take on the Best of Australian Drifters & the best of New Zealand, with a couple of average Japaneese drivers ( Lol ). Please put your support behind us & lets get a Holden Commodore & a young 18 Year old on the Podium to be crowned one of the best in Australia.

Who do they pin the blame on for the contact like that in drifting? It looks like your boy was far enough along side for the pass (in normal racing that is), what's the drifting rules?

Bit of a tough one. At the time when i saw it from the pits, i thought the other guy swung back wat too hard. Most people said Nick should have backed off just little. The problem is they had not crossed the finish line & if lets say Nick backed off & straightened, he would have been deducted a point for strait lineing. This instance no one was deducted any points because it was deemed a racing Incident. A lot of other guys said the other guy should have realized that he was wide & the other car was way up on him & just finished the drift a bit further or not swung back so hard. That swing back was from one side of the track to the other :( If they go completetly off line they are allowed to pass, other than that they must emulate the lead car.

Yes mate, we hope to dominate the new season. A few engine & chassis tweeks :) We had to do all 4 rounds to go into the random draw :( But N.Z would have been cool.......You never know though, we might just look at a round there :)

We just finished the final round of SDA & could not have been a better weekend. Qualified #1 on Saturday & took the win on Sunday. This also secured 3rd place in the 7 round championship for the year.
Really happy that Nick has adapted to this new car so fast. We didnt expect to be any where near the podium this year as we developed the new car & are absolutely stoked.

Notice also the other VE in the shot???? VE commodore 1 & 2 on the day.....Yeah Boy :)

Thanks Nick, the other VE is a supercharged sedan. Out for its 1st real comp & did very well in a new car. Next year we are looking for more hp. We need prob around 5-600 at the wheels with about 1000nm of torque. Very costly to run a drift team so if you hear of anyone wanting to get there name out there to the masses, let us know :) We are currently working on a new design but will not be changing it until after a January event that will be very fitting for its current livery.

Yeah I know it is a very expensive sport. I helped Anthony Cece out this year as pit crew and with building his cefiro earlier in the year and the amount of money that went into this season could of bought a very nice new car, lol. His car will be getting a make over for next season a bit of a freshen up and fix the cooling issues that we had at Barbagello. The most expensive trip for him was Tassie but that's not happening again so it's not so bad now. Can't wait for the new season to begin.

2012 was our testing season & really thought it would be some time before we saw some results. We were mistaken & probably underestimated the VE.
With a National 5th place after only doing 3 of the 4 rounds, a 3rd in our local series championship, a Series win at Queensland Raceways Short track competition for the 1st series & a 3rd for the 2nd series, i think the VE is going to be a very very formidable car in 2013.

What a great way to finish the year, on the Podium. Nick Qualified 2nd & came 3rd for the day. This was the biggest event we have seen at our local track & it was great to see so many talented drivers from around Australia turn up & make it an event to remember. Fantastic to see this bohemoth of a Ute against the small Japanese cars of the traditional Drifter. A AE86 Corolla took the top spot, with a S15 taking 2nd & the VE in 3rd. Some great footage will be getting around soon & will i post them up.
