Guys,
My wife is purchasing a captiva 5. She was down at the dealership yesterday and put a deposit on one, subject to finance.
When she got home, she showed me the price that the dealer had quoted, $34k which included on road costs.
Looking at the holden website for latest deals Brisbane, captive 5's are going for $28990 drive away on all 2011 models in manual.
My wife needs auto because of a back problem, so an extra 1 or 2 thousand would be expected, making it about $30k or there abouts drive away.
The dealer said that they did have 2011 models in stock.
My question is why are we being expected to pay more than what an advertised price is and how much should it really be?
Any feedback would be good.
Cheers

It depends on what options she got like what engine 4 or 6 cylinder petrol, 2.2L diesel, 2 or 4 wheel drive. The price in the paper is for a 2 wheel drive 4 cylinder manual base model. Depending on what she ordered, it seems a little pricey. Did she shop around or get sucked in by a persuasive salesman?

Hopefully she put down subject to her obtaining finance of her choice .

Looking on Carsales, searching new cars - Captiva 5 - Auto, there are plenty around $30,000, but if you change the search to Queensland only, apart from one car, they seem to be about $34,000 as you said. $5K premium for auto is rediculous. If you want to save about $4,000 buy one interstate, but then you got the rego and travel hassles.

In Queensland at least there seems to be a cooling off period, if you want out, you would need to inform the dealer very soon.

Easy, because she was willing to pay it. Did she do any negotiating or just agree to what he told her? Do some research before signing up for a new car.

Exactly.
And, forget about putting a "value" of auto above the discounted price manuals are being offered for. Most people buy auto's so there are quite likely extra incentives to push old manual stock out of either the dealers door or Holden's storage yards, which the better selling auto's don't get.

Just a thought but looking on Carsales in Queensland there are new auto Captiva 7's advertised around the $33K mark. It might not make much difference to what you are paying now, but perhaps a seven might have better resale value than a 5.

My sister bought one in December 2011, the Captiva 5, manual, 2WD petrol was $28990 with a free sunroof. She ended up with the AWD Diesel with Auto and the sunroof for $38990 drive away
Was it AWD also?
