Just after some opinions on running 20's on the standard FE2 suspension without lowering......
Ive just picked up an 06 Calais VE V (will post some pics when i get a chance). Im impressed with the ride quality, comfort, & power after coming from a lowered Mazda 3MPS,
Im looking to get a wheel/tyre package for it (20's), but im not really wanting to get it lowered & sacrifice any comfort & ride quality.
I understand that everyone's tastes are different when it comes to how low they want their car, & the VE guards are a large area to fill, but there is nothing worse than a car with a nice set of wheels that looks like it competed in the Dakar Rally.
Will a set of 20's with 40 series tyres do the job? I like the amount of gap that it has with the Calais wheels & 45 series tyres, if the 20s would have the same gap , i would be happy with that......
Any ideas or opinions would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Ad.

i think 20's use 245/35/20 to get the same rolling diameter therefore the gap will be the same just more rim less rubber but your speedo is still accurate.

What, womble's answer not good enough? Same rolling diameter means same height, therefore same gap between tyre and guard.
IMO, if you change to 20's (and make no other changes) you will be sacrificing ride comfort and quality because of the decrease in sidewall height and it's increase in rigidity.

Good luck
Chris

The VEs on 20s give a much more compliant ride than previous models on 20s. Both my VEs had 20s put on the day I got it so I can't compare to the ride on 18s or 19s but the straight away on 20s with SSL springs I thought the ride was no worse than my VZ SS on 18s with SSL.

Thanks for the feedback guys..

Wonky, did you see the 20's with the standard springs instead of the SSL's?
Did it look like it was sitting too high?

I have some pics of my car here on 20's. Sits ok but could be lower.... Ride is good. I did not notice a huge difference between 19 and 20 "

No, sorry, had it lowered first day. :) It would be pretty similar to a stock VE GTS I think, or maybe look on Carsales for a VE/WM with the Holden 20" Supersport rims.
