Awesome work guys, is there an existing thread with details of the ute set up? Driveline, suspension, exhaust etc or do you keep details like that under your hat?
Good luck I'll be cheering for you.
Cheers Greg.

Hi Greg, everything on the Utes are controlled, there are only 2 things that separate all the Utes, suspension set up and the driver, everything else is control standard and locked, engine, trans, diff, suspension, wheels, Tyres, brakes, shifter, intake, exhaust, min weight, tune etc - this being the reason the racing is so close, rubbins racing..

Good luck to the Phonz and all at GM Motorsport. Hopefully you guys can work out the bugs to get the car competitive. Wouldn't be much fun having the slowest car out there according to the timing data. But early days in this long season to turn it around.

Race 2: Round Up - Hi guys, we survived another crash fest finishing 25th in the wash up, Car was running on 7 cylinders as we had a plug lead come off. We were 2 seconds a lap slower than we were in Race 1, should have it fixed for Race 3 on Sunday, don't forget Race 3 will be on channel 7 at 1:30pm on Sunday

Mullan makes solid Clipsal debut

REVIEW; 2012 Auto One V8 Ute Racing Series – Rnd#1 Clipsal 500
5 March, 2012

GM Motorsport’s Phonsy Mullan made his return to circuit racing at the notorious Adelaide street circuit as part of the Clipsal 500 last weekend after a ten year sabbatical, and what an initiation of fire it was for the reigning V8 Superboat world #2.

“Some of these blokes need to remember the old adage that ‘to finish first, first you have to finish’ because some of the moves that went on - especially into the first corner - were out of control..” he reflected afterwards.

“We had a pretty good weekend considering we had only half a dozen laps testing prior to coming to Adelaide, and we struggled a little with finding the right balance early.
“Because it was such a last minute program, I didn’t have high expectations, especially at Adelaide, and especially at the first event of the year which is typically a carnage-fest, but we finished all three races, passed a bunch of guys, and got faster every session. We also finished with a straight Ute and a whole heap of data and knowledge we didn’t have a week ago..
“At the end of the day we were behind the eight ball from the start because we didn’t have prior laps, so we had to do all our learning and set the car up in two sessions prior to qualifying, so less than 20 laps – and in traffic.

“No excuses, but what that meant is that we had to learn the track, and get the car right, AND learn how it reacts. We qualified about where I expected, and I took it easy in the opening race whilst the carnage unfolded in front of me, and then I started to move forward. We passed a couple of guys on merit, and found two seconds a lap.

“Race two looked from the green to be trouble, so I kept my nose clean and drove around the dramas as cars started to spin into the turn one chicane. I had to run through the gravel, but I made it out the other side, and a whole bunch of cars didn’t.. some of these blokes just don’t learn.

“It was pretty clear though that despite the fact I hadn’t lost my ability to pass cars, I was being overtaken in a straight line, and that doesn’t happen very often.. It turns out we had a plug lead come off, but I still wasn’t happy, there’s something wrong with the engine, I don’t think it’s the engine that was supposed to come with the car, and it’s clearly down on horsepower, we were something like 500 revs down on some of the other Holdens.

“It’s almost as if there’s two classes running in the Utes – one for Holdens, and one for Fords. The Fords have got the wood on the Holdens hands down, there’s no question. They have better top end and carry much better mid corner speed. I guess we’ll see what happens in Tasmania, but there’s a fair division between the red and the blue.
“The last race saw more improvement, but I got caught on the turn seven ripple strip mid race. As I bounced over it the car jumped into neutral, and I lost a few spots, so it could have been a better run, but another move forward to 20th, and overall we came away 24th out of 30 in the championship, which is a pretty good start all things considered.

“Now we’ll take it back to the factory and give it a proper going over - GM Motorsport style – and push for our fresh engine to be back in time for Symmons Plains at the end of the month.”
It will be a busy month for the GM Motorsport team, as the week prior to Symmons Plains, the opening round of the 2012 Australian Superboat Championships will get underway at Temora in central-Western NSW, where Phonsy will do battle in the Unlimited Superboat class with his 1350bhp ‘RAM-JET.’
