The first two digits are the year of manufacture of the engine....

VF00 = 2000,
VF01 = 2001, etc, etc

Is that all the info possible to get from an engine number? Could Vic roads or holden dealership tell me more?

There may be more, such as quarter of the year they were manufactured, however, VicRoads and / or a Holden dealership won't be able to tell you much more than that - if they could actually get that far.....

Check out the vicroads website, saw a new feature released recently on tt that searched VIN history for $15. May allow engine number searches too?

Engine Number Decode: VF010550469 = VF 01 055 0469.
VF = LS1 5.7 litre V8 engine.
01 = Engine built in 2001.
055 = Engine built on the 55th day of the year.
0469 = The 469th engine built that year.

The above engine number is just random numbers but gives you the idea of how the number breaks down.

Thats a Victorian Police surrogate engine number, so the number won't tell you what it is.

Thanks... Slight error in what I posted, the last 4 digits should say the number of engines built that day not number built that year.

Are you sure?
My last 4 digits are 1712, that is quite a few in one day? :confused:

The article I read actually called the last 4 numbers the 'Sequential or sequence number'. Remember these engines were built in Canada and Mexico for the US market as well as Australia so there would have been heaps built, so probably would be a daily sequence number. Unfortunately I can't find the article I got the info from many years ago.
