Trying to put heavy duty axles in my G8 but can't get the stock axles out of the diff. I've been prying for hours. Diff is a Harrop TrueTrac. Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the circlip on the stub is damaged.

Put two bolts through the stub axle back towards the diff and use them as jacking bolts to force the axles out.

Screw a few bolts in loosely and use the drive shaft like a slide hammer to release the drive shaft.

Had a similar problem with mine - did you use new circlips or reuse old ones?

Just gotta keep rotating it and have a couple of guys pull the hub end like a slide hammer - no other bolts etc needed

Thanks for the replies and the ideas. We had to grind a bevel into the clips to get the axles in when we installed the TrueTrac, something Harrup now says is a bad idea due to the heat treatment of the clip getting hosed (which makes sense).

I gave up yesterday, was working by myself on jackstands and it just wasn't happening. Next step is to get the car on a lift and see if 2 guys with prybars on opposite sides can get them out. Harrup says I'm going to have to drop the diff and split the cases, not a good option until everything else has failed. I need to get this car together soon if I am to have any chance of being the first U.S. G8 in the 9s!

My biggest worry is that the rings will break leaving pieces inside. If that happens I'll try fishing around in there with a magnet and praying I can get enough pieces to make a full clip; if not then the pumpkin will have to come out and apart.

Again, thanks for your time guys. I hope things are going well for you on the other side of the world :)

Yeah, they are a little difficult to install with the truetrac

If you are worried something broke when you get it out, get a cheap camera like this: http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/SCA-Inspection-Camera-3-5-LCD-Screen.aspx?pid=221633#Description
to be able to see in there and do some clean up

I think you need to use new circlips each time, as they tend to expand a bit too much for easy reinstallation
