What car do you have mate? you should get a thread started in the my ride section and show off your pride and joy :)

Looking forward to ya cruise mate. VTL53 is going on a holiday to Mackay shortly for the boys at HDTCQ to work their magic. If it's not back, I guess I could make a faux pah and bring the WRX.....

Hi Clubby, your right about the roads and the choice of options for a decent, thats what im really trying to work out at the moment, at a minimum i definetly want to have a meet and greet of all the townsville members and surrounding areas for those who can make it. Ill sort something out, if anyone has any ideas that they think could work please post them up

I dont really know the area too well, but what if there was a meet in town somewhere followed by a drive to crystal creek up mount spec road? If there are any decent sized parking areas with bbq facilities, or someone could bring one then snags and drinks could be sold, use the money to cover the cost of the gas and food etc and give what ever is left to charity or something??

When I had my Monaro, the local LS1 club had a cruise out to the Burdekin Dam. Was a great day, we had a BBQ and took some wonderful shots of the cars parked under the dam. Was a great day!

I really like this idea, i drove out there last and the roads appeared to be pretty good, i was in a landcruiser but. Do have to be careful of cattle and wildlife though. From the middle of the strand to the dam itself is about 210 km.
I know i would be happy to do that distance for a day cruise, how about everyone else?

Hey all
Welcome to TSV Lowry!
Matt, i did a run to the Burdekin Dam about 2 months ago. Pretty good run, the roads aren't to bad. Cattle - yes, and lots of their shit on the road - yes, but traffic is near as none so you can pick your line around it all. Was farkin' hot down there though so if a bbq is on the cards probably better off waiting for the cooler weather to come along. I went down there originally wanting to find a "loop" to drive when i want to go for a decent run. Plan was to run down Flinders Hwy, Burdekin Dam Rd to Ravenswood, Ayr-Ravenswood Rd to Ayr and Bruce Hwy back into TSV. Plan came unstuck when i found the Ayr-Ravenswood Rd was an unsealed red dirt road, so i hit the dam instead. Still looking for a good loop.
Whatever you come up with, keen as always!
Cheers

We had a few loose rocks on the road when we did the run, but was a great drive :)

Yeah i know what you mean Chris, ive been trying to find a loop as well but there really isnt much. The only loop i have done and do on rare occasions is from canon park head all the way down herveys range road, turn left onto gregorys developmental road and follow that all the way to charters then back up into townsville, only problem is about 15-20kms of gregorys developmental road is on single bitumen lane with red dirt either side and you do get the odd truck every now and then coming down and they dont pull off the bitumen, you have to.
Guys, other ideas ive had for a short cruise would be up to Paluma, nice little restaurant up there with some good food, or i even thought about doing a trip up to Cardwell, and then getting the Cairns guys to do a trip down as its pretty much halfway. That way we can get a Townsville/Cairns meet and greet, would be also good i think if we get a heap of us turning up in Cardwell, What do you guys think?
Cheers

Paluma is a great drive, but can be a bit tight... Cardwell sounds like lots of fun!! be good to inject a bit of cash into the local economy too ...

I've been doing a fair bit of work out at Ravenswood for the last 9 months on and off and love the drive out. Take the GTS out there pretty regularly and have no problems with the road or the wildlife if i'm travelling during the day. Generally prefer the Impy hotel for a pit stop but the Railway gets a decent crowd as well.

Yeah Matt,
Sounds sweet as. Count me in! Looking forward to it. Hey mate who is a good tuner in townsville. Doesnt seem to be too much to choose from or do you guys head to Mackay for work. Met some guy who runs a shop in Keane st near maccas on hugh st the bloke seemed like a wank , just wasnt interested in my business even though i said I would wait until he wasnt busy just to give me a call. Was looking to to intercool the charger kit on the xr8 about 2 months back. Let me know who you think is good

That would have been Bob, i think he is totally swamped and real short handed at the moment. He's been trying to clear some real long term jobs (like mine lol) and i dont think he was taking any new work till he finished those commitments. There are some other alternatives like KTMR and TMS which should be able to help you out.

Ah man that sucks lol. The only other date i was thinking was a sunday earlier on the 15th, i initially picked the 22nd as it would give people more time to plan around it.
Well put it to vote, 15th april or 22nd april?

Good to hear the cars good, my ute was locked away safely in the garage. It wasnt even that bad in kirwan, i didnt even wake up for it lol.
But your right though, driving from kirwan into garbutt this morning was crazy, couldnt believe how much damage was created in the space of 5 to 10 minutes. One of my work mates lost half his roof on his house that he just finished renovating after 2 years, poor bastard.

our network copped a floggin around that area. we are doing 16 hr days to fix some of the poles an tranny's. heasp of shit down in some streets. in the main areas. we are still trying to clear broken poles an wires. think itll be a while before some ppl have power. there was a few houses that lost half there walls an no roof at all left. few caravan joints had a couple of them blown in half. it was so selected with the spots. some houses got more f'ed up the yasi for sure.

Hey all, good to here most people on here got away with little to no damage on their pride and properties. I got stuck down in Emerald for a few days, tried to make a run for it then got stuck at Belyando Crossing for a few more days. Cape River across the Gregory Development Rd was up to 10M and rising as of Thursday night. Shit loads of water!!! It's actually hard to comprehend that much water flowing that fast even when you see it with your own eyes. Managed to get home yesterday arv by back tracking down to Clermont, across to Mackay and up to Townsville.
They had beer where i was staying and the people were pretty good so we had a pretty good time considering.

Sounds like you had a nice little adventure Chris lol. Good to hear you got back in one piece though. The bridge that goes over the Burdekin river just outside charters towers, i went for a drive out there last year after yasi and that was only 2-3 metres of the bottom of the bridge, considering that part of the river is pushing i reckon 100m wide, to see it had come up at least 4-5 metres and how fast it was flowing was incredible to see, as bad as it all is when stuff gets damaged and people get hurt by all these storms and cyclones but you cant help but be impressed what mother nature can do when it fights back.

Thanks mate. I was away for work when it rolled through. However, I've come back to find my car has a massive dent in the front right quarter panel and scratches across the bonnet. I'm certain it was house mates, but cant prove anything. They've been kicked out.
Damage looks like a fist, no scratches, just perfect fist size indentation. Car was garaged during storm.

That really sucks, really must piss you off actually, I took my step dads ba XR8 to work one day when i was 17 and working at kfc, came out after my shift at about 10:30 pm and found 4 fist sice dents in the tailgate, stepdad was pretty pissed but wasnt blaming me , felt pretty shit though. Cant stand people who do that sort of stuff. At least you have kicked them out though.
For anyone interested, theres a street meet on today at 3pm at the townsville dragway, racing through till 6. Track spent most of yesterday getting prepped but small shower came through they postponed till today, ill be heading down at about 2:30, hopefully see some of you there

Col summerhayes smash repairs or Reece Spray.
Col summerhayes did the full respray and damage repairs after my ute was stolen in 2010 and i couldnt fault there work, came highly recommended to me by Pete at TMS mate. To put in perspective i went in for a quote the other week and they had an Audi RS5 in there for a rear quarter panel replacement, high end car with a high end result, couldnt tell at all it was changed.
Reece Spray does smash repairs and spray painting obviously and did the spray job on my wheels and absolutetly love his work.
I would recommending visiting both and having a chat to sort out some prices and see what you think.
As for a meet in the new year have a look here, http://www.facebook.com/pages/NQ-Holden-V8-Club/341452999224439
