View Full Version : Exhaust Options???

I'm just after people's opinions/experiences.

I currently have a VY SS with the following:
Di Filippo 1 3/4" headers
CHE 2.5" hiflow metal substrate cats
Di Filippo twin 2.5" exhaust
DUS OTR
220/220 112 cam, with heads slightly ported & 11:1 comp
3.9s
etc, etc

Before the cam & headwork was done, my car sounded really nice for a bolt-on car with the exhaust combo above. But now for some reason (after cam & headwork), the exhaust note sounds quite lazy. Its kind of hard to explain...my car absolutely flies now...has more torque eveywhere, but its like the exhaust note isn't keeping up with how fast the car is going or feels (SOTP). The twin 2.5" DF exhaust obviously flows well enough, but for some reason the sound doesn't work with the new head/cam combo.

Now I'm after a deeper more ballsy note, so I'm leaning towards a twin 3" system. What are peoples thoughts on mating a Xforce twin 3" exhaust to the DF headers & hiflow cats. Has anyone done this combo before...if so, what does it sound like and were you happy with the outcome? I read somewhere, that the DF 4into1 long headers are too long & the Xforce exhaust wont fit...probably BS but not sure.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a good twin 3" exhaust? I don't really want to pay the Earth for one, since I just want it for a better sound.

Also, my car is essentially a weekender...so would I be better off getting stainless steel or mild steel? My current DF exhaust is made of mild steel with s/s mufflers and it is still in great condition (& its a few years old now).

Thanks guys

I would suggest you have to try a 3" catback....X Force can be had relatively inexpensively if the $$$ are a stumbling block..otherwise try a 3" DF catback....

Thanks jkgmh, I'm just guessing that the exhaust is the problem (i.e. not the cats or headers). And ebay has the Xforce twin 3" exhaust in mild steel for less than $600 delivered. I'm temptetd to try this exhaust due to the pretty cheap price. DF would be nice, but I just can't justify the rather large additional cost

Yeah that is a cheap way to try it out..if not re-sell the catback. I'm sure there will be someone else on here with a similar combination that could comment...

What I may like in an exhaust note may differ from what you like..so unfortunately it could be a trial and error scenario...Good Luck

You could try this...

How long have you had it for? Have you had any quality / rust issues?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've had a SuperCat exhaust before the DF one & I wasn't a fan. But like you said, different people like different exhaust notes

I've had it for about a month now. All good and like you said less than 600 delivered

Thanks vxsslsx. Are your ballistic cats 3" as well?

If I go the twin 3" exhaust, do I need my old flanges cut off & new flanges welded onto my 2.5" cats to mate with the twin 3" exhaust system?

No probs. I originally had 2.5" cats with my twin 3" system bolted up fine. Week later I got the 3" ballistic cats put on

Excellent thanks mate,

Is there anyone out there with DF headers and a xforce twin 3" exhaust?
