Hi Guys,

Looking at buying a VZ clubsport R8 but cant seem to determine if it is actually an R8 or not. The car has leather interior, has R8 on the dash when you start it, however doesnt have r8 on the HSV build plate or doesnt appear to be a R8 when i rang HSV. Now the log books say it was an R8 but this is hand written. Is it possible that the dash cluster has been changed? However the build number on the dash and plate match? Sounds a little bit sus to me. Any help would be great, cheers.

ring holden, given them the VIN. if they say its not, then its not a genuine built HSV. Anyone can change badges, dashs, clusters etc

Hang on - so it has a HSV build plate that doesn't say it's an R8 - what does the build plate say it is? Or do HSV build plates not normally state the model?

johnvzclubby

the HSV build plate says HSV Clubsport but it looks like it runs out of room for the r8. The Dash cluster says R8 on it and the build number 1293 matches both the cluster and plate on the car.

Does anyone have a 05 VZ R8 clubby that doesnt say R8 on the plate?

just looking at a couple of pics on the forum of other guys cars, there is an 05 clubsport with VZ Clubsport R8 on the plate. This seems a littke weird to me.

my main concern isnt if its an R8 or not, just if the clock has been wound back somehow. The service history does seem to stack up though and its not stolen or a write off.

To my knowledge the r8s got the new style seats and std clubsports got the old style coulson with std headrest. From ones I've seen this is the case.

What about other aspects, what brakes are on it?

it is a Clubsport, but Holden does not recognise it as an R8

So its a clubby, but not a fullspec R8? Ie A clubsport optioned with leather or somthing? Again the dash clearly says r8 on it and has r8 in the book.

I have a friend who works at Holden near my work. He said their computer says Clubsport, but not Clubsport R8.
R8-10 speaker stereo (2 subs on rear parcel shelf), 4 spot brakes, overhead centre console, space saver spare,
non R8-6 speaker stereo, 2 spot brakes

Seems its defiantly not an r8 then. Is 21k for an 05 stock clubby in devil yellow with leather a decent price??

Auckland? What are you suggesting?

I'm only suggesting what the shipper says about that car's VIN.
Definitely, more investigation would be required, as there are at least a couple of questions. Does the owners manual show who stamped the first service? If you are serious about this car, paying $15 for an official HSV authentication certificate via the Authenticate my HSV link, under the "Owners" tab of www.hsv.com.au might be worth your while.

johnvzclubby

I can't exactly remember who did the first service on it, however I can find out.what will the certificate tell me Dave? For 15 bucks I'm more then happy to get one. What would you suggest I do from here?

Sold last October through grays??

Also the R8 had the 10 spoke wheels and the Clubsports had 5 spoke wheels. not that it helps with that car having aftermarket wheels.

The Grays add shows the car with 100,549kms

Then when you put the rego (YJT424) in google it was also at manheim auctions with 100,606kms.

I would keep looking for a car that is not so "sus"

might pay to call the RTA or send them an email to investigate the car. It might all be innocent but with what has been discovered already on the car, if the seller is pulling a deliberate shonk then the guy should be stung for it.

With the guy knowing my address etc, probably not a good idea to cause a stir!

A genuine R8 will have Clubsport R8 and build number on the HSV build plate. My VX R8 certainly does. An R8 should have the newer style HSV seats, a non R8 has SS style seats but with HSV trim, leather in a non R8 I'm not sure, but I'm thinking probably aftermarket. For more info have a look on HSV website (HSV classics) you can see the specs of various models, might give you some confirmation of what you have seen. Be careful assuming cars advertised as R8's on the likes of Carsales as it's pretty common to see non R8's advertised as an R8. Look for the telltale signs of seats, brakes, wheels if original HSV, and HSV build plate.

I would think Fusion, Ignition is a VE colour, how many Kms? $26K is a reasonable price for a genuine VZ R8 if the Kms are decent and it's in excellent condition with a sunroof too, sounds like a good buy.

Yeh the things pretty nice, full exhaust, ve clubby wheels, only 90km with full books and not a mark on the thing. I'm pretty happy with it. Can't wait to stick a nice cam and stally in the thing.

There was Ignition coloured VZ's.....I've got a 06 Maloo R8 in Ignitions even says it on the build plate. There's not very many of them at all but from what I was told by HSV they were a HSV special order to do the last few in the colour. Not sure if the Sedans got it but Maloo's definately did since they were still being built in the VZ's while the VE sedans were already in production ( remember VE utes didn't come out until a fair time after the sedans ). PS ignore my drivers door, its the wrong shade of Ignition after it was repaired.

Having not seen a VZ in that colour, I really really like it. I know the VZ sedans got a "limited" run of that Turismo blue and Devil Yellow but havent heard of them in Ignition
The colour looks so different on the Z

I'd be thinking the Maloo would be a late 06 the colour most likely available since the E series sedans were released. I would guess it would be built after say September 06? Looks good.

Yeah I've spoken to a mate thats a panel beater recently and said the same thing about it looking different to Ignition on the VE's, which he said it prob would be because Holden have always had different batch's of colours etc, so you'll have ones with more gold, more orange, more black and so on. Says its a pain in the arse for them if they don't have the exact batch number etc of the car they're working on.

Here's the Build plate, as old mate can see, def has the R8 stamped on it.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense with the batches. Never really thought about the slight variations
My R8 also has it stamped on the build plate - Hopefully noone buys this other one thinking its genuine...
