Had my day in court today for a parking ticket I got back in December. Mention was last week where I pleaded not guilty and today was the hearing date. Magistrate had the prosecutor run through the list and when he got to the parking matters he stated his intention to ask for a 4 week adjournment as 9 days is not enough time to prepare the briefs. Needless to say all 3 of us objected to an adjournment, magistrate agreed, prosecutor then asked for each to be dismissed, of which we all agreed.
Pity I still don't know wether where I parked was legal or not.

This was in ACT magistrates court.

Some of the no parking/stopping areas are a pain when signs are missing.I know of 1 place where it is impossible to know where the other end is,all the builder guys just use a driveway as the limit of the sign.I think the other no parking sign has been taken off the pole further down the street, mbe by the building site guys.
There is a No Stopping sign near my kid's school and I could never work out where the other end was,it become's an unlimited parking area further along and a clearway after 3.30pm till 6.30pm,I noticed today a new No Stopping sign has been put up at the other end,at least there is no confusion now but a few parents won't be happy

I agree with the prosecutor.

9 days is waaay too short to prepare a brief taking into account annual leave other court commitments, days off, ridiculous.

But good luck to you anyway. Hope I get the same beak if ever I'm in the poo!

Prosecutor blamed an inexperienced prosecutor from last week. Bet the 4th not guilty plea from last week who wanted the next date in June is kicking himself, if he ever finds out.

For those that know Canberra. David street Turner, opposite the Turner public school. Only stretch of road with no parking restrictions or kerb or guttering. Fine was parking on nature strip in built up area.

Yep fair enough. In that case, prosecutors fault...should have asked for more time. Hopefully I will get the same magistrate AND prosecutor if ever I am in the poo!

You must have a lot of time on your hands to go to court for a parking ticket.

Let's see... 1 day leave for the mention, done by lunch time and was able to get a few things done before dark. Today, another day leave done by 10:30 with the rest of the day free. Total $$ cost to defend, $0.00 total cost to the ACT government, a lot more than that.
I don't believe I was illegally parked and it was not proven that I was.
Not sure about you, but i don't roll over when I am in the right.

So were you booked by the law or by the council ranger.
I would be ringing council and get a ruling for clarification even if you don't intend parking there again.
Ask them why there are no signs, make them get off there arse's and do something

It was a ACT gov parking inspector. Considering they couldn't even answer all the points in my protest letter I'm not sure they could even answer more questions. Found a spot 300 metres further away, so not a big issue.
