Hi guys,
SS is heading in for a 90k service + replacement of harmonic balancer (has a wobble )
all up 1300 which isnt as extreme as i had anticipated. But looking to cut costs anyway.
Spark plugs being the single most expensive item of the service, holden couldnt tell me which brand they were (apparently they are holden brand...)
Anyone know of a good brand/model spark plug they run in their 6.0L that i can shop around for a decent price?
Also the balancer is a tad over 300, is it possible to source one from somewhere else to cut costs?
Thanks
Rob

the brand of spark plugs holden use in the dealership are AC Delco platinum plugs, i couldn't tell you the part number sorry.
If you want to save some coin why not buy the plugs and fit them yourself, could buy an NGK iridium plug equivalent there not hard to fit to the v8's
and if you paying for a harmonic balancer out of warranty maybe consider a underdrive balancer as a replacement since your paying for it anyway you might as well pick up some extra HP along the way

Had a look at the AC delco website. They list 41805 for the VE 6.0L V8 L77 engine, mine is a L98 though. The only listing for the L98 is platinum rapid fire AC14 under statesman/caprice. But on the AC delco american website, for the pontiac G8 2008-2009 6.0L they list 41-110.
41-110 can be had for around $60 off ebay which is nicer then 270 from holdens. Cant be sure they are the same ones holden use though, dealer ship couldnt tell me the numbers.
The 6.0L in the G8 is the same as the SS?
Update for anyone interested.
Just got off the phone with a different dealer, had a look at the packaging, AC delco branded, has 12621258 numbering on it.
Came across this site
http://www.maxxtech.eu/Spark-Plug-AC-Delco-41-110-97-07.html
Which confirms ac delco 41-110 are the same as GM-12621258

ACD 41942 are double platinum versions of AC14. They suit L76/98. (funnily enough they are listed to suit the old S/C V6 too)

stock denso's are $60 on ebay, all the same across the range. or can use NGK BPR6EF $3.50 from repco, which many shops use. IMHO, any fancy plugs (just like leads) are a waste of money.

Platinum and other fancy plugs would be used to help reduce emissions via better burning etc etc. A minor power increase is a gift! They have the benefits of a long life span (120k). While they are expensive, they will be generally only changed once in the cars expected life time. Rather than 6 times for standard plugs, lower maintainence levels and cost over a projected life span.
I could have used stock AC plugs for my wifes corolla at $2 each or use double platinum AC plugs at $4 each. You can guess which ones i used, but i doubt i`ll have to change them again :yup:

stock denso's last 100k+
I like NGK plugs, either the platinum or standards. use standards in my car as recommended by powertorque (bpr6efs-15) and have been great, but only good for 20,000k's. to the OP why go to Holden at all? Being out of warranty you get no real advantage to using oem parts (and as stated they are AC delco anyway). I would go for a powerbond 15% under balancer (different length belts required obviously) too. have to admit though it would probably be around the same price as the oem standard drive one.
