MX7 is the larger one. It has a breather hose and is physically bigger taking an extra 0.9L of fluid than the MF5 and has better ratios in 1st and 2nd too. :driving:

Pretty certain they're compatible. Also if you use the old MF5 flywheel and clutch you don't need to change your starter motor but you need to re-drill the holes in the MX7 sandwhich plate

Left one is MF5 - Right one is MX7

Just been through this myself when doing the turbo conversion to my non turbo VL using all factory parts fron a donor car. The donor car however while being a genuine factory VLT, had a non turbo MF5 box fitted instead of the MX7. So I had to find an MX7 and refit that.

Shifter plates (assume you mean the floor plate) are the same with both boxes. You will need to use an MX7 sandwich plate,(You can use an MF5 one, but you need to slot out the holes for the starter motor) MX7 VL turbo starter motor, and the 10 inch flywheel. The gearshifter sticks are also different between the two boxes and arent interchangeable. Gearbox mounts is the same, but the only difference is it uses another set of boltholes in the car floor, They are behind where the MF5 ones are. Easy enough to see. There are also a couple of 1/2 inch thick spacers that go between the floor and the gearbox mount
